[1:02]Welcome to the Queen City of the South, Cebu. Cebu may be known for its impressive beaches, but if you look beyond the shores and deep into its heart, you'll see a rich history that tells a beautiful tale. In particular, the Queen City of the South, as Cebu City is often called and known for, is home to many heritage sites that date back to the Spanish colonial period. Now, let us take a look into Cebu's roots. The Cebu Heritage Monument depicts the major and significant events in Cebu from the time of Raha Humabon, the beatification of Pedro Calungsod, the Spanish invasion and other major events in the history of Cebu. The Yap-San Diego ancestral house is considered as one of the oldest residential houses in the Philippines. In Lapu-Lapu City, there lies a popular heritage site called Mactan Shrine. Its rich history is not just well known in the Philippines, but throughout the entire globe as well. It holds the story of the famous expedition led by Ferdinand Magellan, who was the first to circumnavigate the world. Cebu is more than just all the places we've mentioned. There are also more historical sites to visit too. Your Cebu trip wouldn't be complete if you have not experienced the vibrant and fun-filled Sinulog festival in Cebu every January. Sinulog or Sto. Niño festival is an annual religious and cultural celebration in Cebu. It is thought to be the first of the most well-known festivals in the Philippines. The delicious cuisine and delicacies in Cebu are one of the must-tries when you are traveling here. Lechon can almost be seen in every Filipino parties and deemed a matter of pride by Filipinos. By reputation, the Cebu Lechon is considered as the tastiest and crispiest with such flavorful meat that condiments or sauce are typically not necessary anymore. Puso is definitely a Cebuano thing. It is simply just rice placed inside a triangular casing made of woven palm leaves and cooked. It makes eating rice easier plus it's simple to clean up. Shomai sa Tisa is the Cebuano version of steamed Chinese pork dumplings. Puto in Cebu is different from the various stick rice in other parts of the Philippines. Puto, also referred to as puto maya, is steamed sticky rice mixed with coconut milk. Cebu puto usually comes with sikwate, a hot chocolate drink made of tabliya or dried pulverized cacao seeds. We have now reached the end of this video, but before I say goodbye, I just want to say that we have to appreciate our heritage because it provides clues to our past and how our society has evolved. It helps us examine our history and traditions and enables us to develop awareness about ourselves. It helps us understand and explain why we are the way we are.
