[0:05]Ashwagandha is probably the most effective supplement you can take for managing your cortisol. But if you're taking it every day without cycling off, there are a few things that you need to know. But before I tell you how to cycle it, let me quickly explain what Ashwagandha is actually doing in your body. Ashwagandha works by modulating your HPA axis, which is the system that controls your stress response. And its active compounds called withanolides interact with receptors in your brain that regulate cortisol production. And multiple clinical trials have shown that it lowers cortisol by 23 to 33% in stressed adults. And that cortisol reduction is what drives the downstream benefits you're taking it for. So better sleep, lower anxiety, improved recovery from training. And in men, it can actually support testosterone by removing cortisol suppressive effect on hormone production. But here's where it gets important. Ashwagandha also stimulates your thyroid. An eight-week clinical trial found that 600 milligrams daily increased T3 levels by 41% and T4 by nearly 20%. And there are published case reports of people developing thyrotoxicosis, which is a dangerous excess of thyroid hormone from continuous Ashwagandha use. And every one of those cases resolved after they stopped taking it. And on top of that, there are increasing reports of liver injury linked to Ashwagandha. And NIH now lists it as a likely cause of clinically apparent liver injury. These cases are rare, but they are real and they typically show up between two and 12 weeks of continuous use. And here's the part that ties all this together. The clinical trials that showed Ashwagandha is safe and effective, only studied continuous use for 8 to 12 weeks, and we don't have any long-term safety data beyond that window. So when you're taking it indefinitely without breaks, you're operating outside of what the research is actually tested. So here's what you should be doing. Cycle Ashwagandha for 8 to 12 weeks on, then take two to four weeks off. And use a standardized extract like KSM 66 or Sensoril at 300 to 600 milligrams daily. And if you've never had your thyroid checked, get a baseline thyroid panel before you start, especially TSH, T3, and T4. And if you have any preexisting liver condition, make sure you talk to your doctor before taking Ashwagandha at all. Ashwagandha is a genuinely useful tool when you use it correctly. So just treat it like a cycle, not a daily forever supplement and monitor your blood work. And if you want help building a complete supplement protocol, I also have all this stuff laid out inside of my free community.
