[0:05]I wonder how, I wonder why. Yesterday you told me about the blue, blue sky and all that I can see is just a yellow lemon tree. Oops, my intention is not to sing, but rather to share my thoughts through a book review. Hi, hello everyone. I'm Ezany Shadrina binti Eruan Shah. I'm from SK Kota Dalam, Ayer Hitam, Johor. Today I would like to do a book review for Wonder by R. J. Palacio. She is an American writer who also worked as a graphic designer. This is a fiction book and it has been categorized as a low literature book. This book consists of 310 pages and was published by Alfred A. Knopf Inc. on 14th of February 2012. Wonder is a heartwarming novel that tells a story of a young boy named August Pullman, who was born with a facial deformity. August starts going to a regular school in fifth grade after being homeschooled for most of his life. Despite his fears, August manages to make a few friends, including Summer and Jack. They don't judge him by his looks and accept him for who he is. However, August also faces bullying and discrimination from some of his classmates which takes a toll on him and his family. The most intense part happens when August's classmate find out that his friend Julian has been saying unkind things about him. This news creates a problem between August and his friends. He feels very upset and refuses to go to school. In order to help him feel better, his family offers their support and help him to regain his self-esteem. This book teaches me that despite of who we are, family is always there to support us to be more confident and strong. I find August to be the most likable character in the book. I love how August still being kind toward others, even when they are not kind to him. He tries to see the good in people and treat them with respect and understanding. Another positive trait is his determination to overcome his obstacle and appreciate his interests such as science and space. August also shows me the importance of being true to oneself and not letting others define who we are. The character's strong desire to be known for who he is, not just how he looks, is very motivating. I feel a strength connection to his story. Wonder teaches me several important lessons. The book beautifully illustrates the transformative power of compassion and understanding. As a school prefect, I have the opportunity to model and promote kindness and empathy towards my friends. This can be done by getting along with everyone, listening to others and looking for ways to help those in need. As the book deals with the issue of bullying on students, I can help prevent bullying by promoting a culture of respect and zero tolerance for bullying in school. August also shows me that anyone can be a leader, no matter their physical appearance or abilities. I believe that I can lead by example and inspire others to be the best version of themselves. I found a quote on TikTok saying that bullying is easy, like throwing a rock into the ocean, but have you ever stopped to wonder how deep the rock could go? This book is so gripping, I was completely hooked from the first page. I couldn't put it down. The author uses dialogue, inner thoughts and descriptions to make the characters and their experiences come alive in the book. The writing is easy to understand and is appropriate for all. The book's structure helps the story moving and keep the reader engaged. At the same time, this book gives me a better understanding of how different characters see things and what they've been through. Well, Ardy show also wrote Auggie and me, the three wonder stories and 365 Days of Wonder as a companion and a new side of Wonder story. Overall, Wonder is a meaningful book that encourages me to look beyond appearances and appreciate the goodness in people. It captures the reader's heart and mind with relatable characters and creative storytelling. It is a book that can inspire readers of all ages to be more compassionate and understanding. I swear, you won't regret spending time for this book. Okay guys, I think that's all I would like to share with you about this book. Hope to see you again. Bye.
