Since its inception over two decades ago, Tanishq, the jewelry division of Titan Company, which is promoted by Tata Group, has risen to become one of the foremost names in branded gold jewelry. [1:02]At our design studios, the finest talents in the industry collaborate and conceptualize trend-setting designs. Each new design is first intricately crafted on paper in minute detail. Then, to ensure dimensional precision and accuracy, it is transferred into virtual form using high-end software tools. This helps visualize every piece of jewelry before embarking upon the task of creating it. Prototyping. Completed designs are first evaluated by master goldsmiths to be handcrafted into a prototype made from silver, which is called a master. Each master is crafted to ensure that it is perfect in every way. Because any defect in them, if let by, will be amplified significantly during the manufacturing process. Once the silver master is ready, advanced 3D printing technology is used to create a plastic prototype of the master. The master is then used to create the mold. This is done by packing the master within multiple layers of rubber, in such a way that the rubber precisely encapsulates every contour, every crevice of the master. Waxing. This is where we come to the all-important process of waxing, wherein we create wax prototypes by injecting wax into the mold cavity using an injection machine. The master is then meticulously prized out of the rubber mold with utmost care. Once these replicas are cooled, they are examined once again to ensure that they confirm to the standards that have come to be associated with Tanishq. This is also the stage when stones are cast in the designs as well, as per the needs of each design. The wax replicas are now ready for a process known as tree making. The wax pieces are attached to a central screw to give it the form of a tree. The mounting of wax pieces onto the tree is yet another process that requires immense care, because this decides the quality of the final casting. Casting and quenching. Once the wax trees are ready, they are placed in a vacuum, where a slurry of investment powder and water is applied onto the wax trees to completely envelop them. The slurry is allowed to settle for a specified amount of time before the tree is loaded into the furnace for the process of burning, also known as the lost wax process.
[4:05]In the furnace, the refractory molds gain the required hardness while the wax melts away, leaving behind cavities in the shape of the designs.
[4:18]Refining. The purity of our gold is one of the hallmarks of brand Tanishq. To ensure that we use only the purest possible form of gold, impure gold is first melted. This melted gold is then converted into small granules and loaded into a reactor with aqua regia, which literally translates to royal water. Aqua regia separates the silver content from the gold, which is then filtered out. The gold solution is then pumped into a precipitation tank. The result of this entire process is pure amorphous gold powder. This powder is then melted again before being shaped into a bar of pure gold. Alloying. Gold in its purest form is too soft to be used in jewelry making. Hence, it must undergo a process of alloying. Alloying is used to turn pure gold into the required caratage, while also giving it the desired color.
[5:37]Rolling. Different kinds of special machinery is then used to convert this gold alloy into sheets, strips, tubes, or wires, depending on the need. Let's return to the process of manufacturing jewelry from earlier. Casting and quenching. The refractory molds that have been produced thus far are placed in a precision casting machine. Gold of the required caratage is then loaded into the machine in the form of strips or granules, melted and then forced into the molds. Thus, molten gold fills the trees and takes shape within the cast. The cast tree is then quenched in water before the investment powder is broken away. A high-pressure water jet is then used to clean the tree. This process is followed by picking and drawing operations. Finally, the wax tree makes way for gold one. Tree cutting. However, the tree doesn't stay for long. Next, the gold pieces are cut from the sprew, which are then ground and filed. Benchwork. Once ready, the pieces are fit to be bench worked. All the component units are assembled together and soldered where required. Thus, the gold takes its final physical shape as a piece of jewelry. Chain making. Sophisticated machines are used to create chains of different designs. This is done with immense precision.
[7:30]If the product design requires it to be studded with precious stones, it then undergoes the stone setting operation. The desired stones, for example, diamonds or rubies, are physically set into the product at this stage. Once the stones are set, the product is ready for the final stages of polishing. They are subject to a host of polishing procedures, all loaded with special polishing compounds. It is this that truly gives Tanishq gold its legendary luster. The product is then further cleaned using ultrasonic machines and steam cleaners, ensuring that any dirt or residue from the polishing process is removed.

Yet, before it can adorn someone's body, every single piece of jewelry that comes out of our plants goes through a complete quality control inspection to ensure that each piece is truly worthy of carrying forward the legacy of brand Tanishq. The purity of gold is consistently monitored at various stages of the manufacturing process in our assay lab, using the time-tested fire assay method. This is how we ensure that every piece of jewelry genuinely confirms to the stated caratage, the foundation of trust that the truly discerning buyer associates with Tanishq jewelry. In order to ensure flawless mass production, executed with extreme precision, the manufacturing plant runs on an indigenously designed automated system based on complex robotics. Robotics.
