[0:10]So, what actually is a Students' Union? It's just a bar, right? A big old room with some sofas? Well, yeah, you're right.
[0:21]But, that's definitely not all we do. Academic representation, democracy, entertainment, Volunteering, clubs and societies. To help and advice and awareness campaigns, we have it all. I'm Harrison and I'm your Vice President Student Activities. I'm responsible for sports clubs, societies, volunteering and fundraising. I'm Euan, your Vice President Education, your lead rep for all things academic. I'm Lucy, your SU President and I oversee welfare and governance here at the Students' Union. And this is Worcester Students' Union!
[1:00]The SU is a democratic organization run by students for students. As your elected representatives, we're here to make sure that your voice is heard and help you make the most out of your time here at Worcester. As we're independent from the University, we can speak up on your behalf when the really big decisions are being made. As well as us three, there are also eight other elected Part Time Officers who will also be running campaigns throughout the year. There is a Sustainability, Black Asian Minority Ethnic, Welfare, Disability, Mature Students, LGBT, International and Women's Officer. Any student at the University of Worcester can run for Office, making a huge impact on every aspect of student life during your term as an elected Officer. We also help our students run nearly 100 different sports clubs and societies. Our clubs and societies are all run by student-led committees and are open for all Worcester students to join. One of the highlights of our calendar year is when we take on the University of Gloucestershire in our annual Varsity tournament. Can't find what you're looking for? We're always hoping to expand our range of clubs and societies and it's never been easier to set up your own. Just visit our website to find out more. Volunteering or fundraising more your thing? Volunteer within the local community or through the Students' Union, keeping a record of your hours and getting it recorded on your official degree transcript when you graduate. You can also get involved with the RAG Committee. They're a group of students who help fellow students fundraise alongside their studies. Last year we managed to raise nearly £18000 for various charities, through Puppy Pat & Chats, flash mobs, charity tournaments and much, much more! The Students' Union is here to make sure you can make the most out of your time here at University. One of the ways we do this is working in partnership with the University to deliver the Student Academic Representation system. Each course will have at least one Course Rep who will volunteer their time to represent your views on your course. We also will have School Reps who will do the same thing but at the School level. The Students' Union offers a free, independent, confidential and impartial advice service to any student at the University of Worcester, regardless of their place of study. So, whether you have a concern about your academic studies, housing, finance or your health and wellbeing, come and make an appointment with our advisor. We're definitely more than just a bar, although if you're looking for somewhere to relax, party or hang out with friends, you can do that here too. I can also safely say that Friday night Karaoke in the Hangar is the place to be! During the day you can find us here, based at St John's campus where you'll be greeted with a friendly face and an open door. If you're based at City, look out for us as we'll be there at various times throughout the year. So pop in and see us anytime! You can drop us an email, contact us on Facebook or even by tweet. Welcome to Worcester Students' Union.
