[0:00]Hello, welcome back to the channel. Today we're going to be talking about how to set up two-factor authentication, also known as 2FA, for your Proton account. This is a really important security measure that you should enable on all of your accounts that support it. And especially for something like Proton Mail or Proton VPN, where you're dealing with sensitive information, it's really important that you have this enabled. So let's go ahead and dive in. The first thing you're going to want to do is navigate to account.proton.me, and then you're going to want to log in to your account. Once you're logged in, you should see a screen similar to this. From here, you're going to want to go to the left-hand sidebar and click on security and privacy. From here, you're going to want to scroll down until you see the two-factor authentication section. And you can see here that I have it disabled on my account currently, so we're going to go ahead and enable it. So the first thing you're going to want to do is click on enable two-factor authentication. You're going to be prompted to enter your password. Go ahead and enter your password and click continue. From here, you're going to be given a QR code and a secret key. You're going to want to open up your authenticator application. I use Authy, which is a third-party authenticator application that I really like. It's available on desktop and mobile, and it syncs across all your devices, which is really handy. You can also use something like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator, or whatever authenticator application you prefer. So I'm going to go ahead and open up Authy. I'm going to add a new account, and I'm going to scan the QR code. Once you've scanned the QR code, you should see a new entry in your authenticator application with a six-digit code. You're going to want to enter that code into the verification code box here. So I'm going to go ahead and enter my code. And once you've entered the code, you're going to want to click on enable. From here, you're going to be given a list of recovery codes. These are really important. You're going to want to download these, print them, and store them in a safe place. These are essentially one-time use codes that you can use to log into your account if you lose access to your authenticator application. So let's say your phone dies or you lose your phone and you can't access your authenticator application. You can use one of these codes to log into your account and disable two-factor authentication or set up a new authenticator application. So it's really important that you store these in a safe place. Don't store them on your computer. Don't store them in the cloud. Store them somewhere offline in a safe, secure location. Once you've downloaded these, you can click on done. And now you can see that two-factor authentication is enabled on your account. So let's go ahead and test this out. I'm going to go ahead and log out of my account, and I'm going to log back in. So I'm going to enter my username and password, and then I'm going to be prompted to enter my two-factor authentication code. So I'm going to go ahead and open up Authy, get my code, and enter it in. And now you can see that I'm logged into my account, and two-factor authentication is working correctly. So that's how you set up two-factor authentication for your Proton account.
