[0:15]Have you seen anywhere?

[0:24]Um, hello, is this the student focus group session? Yeah, and I think it is. Um, I'm Wendy, if you haven't figured that out by now. Um, today we're going to talk about faculty and what they know about your learning. So, just share with me some ideas of like what you want faculty members to know. Sorry. Hey, how's it going? I know, I'm, I'm doing a session right now. Yeah, I know. We'll talk about that later. Yeah, I know, we got it. Yeah. Okay. Sorry about that. Um, please also make sure your phone's off. I think it's disrespectful so we want to make sure everything is off, so we can actually get this session going. Okay. So what does faculty know about student learning and have you used connect before?

[1:19]I haven't used connect yet, but I've used Vista. I mean, this session's more about connect and not about Vista, so let's try to stay on topic because, like, we don't want the session being forever. So, we'll try to say about connect, like... Can you contribute? Okay. Um, does anyone else have any idea? Well, I don't know if this is on topic, but I don't think I necessarily learn on connect. I mean, I use the discussion boards, though. Discussion boards? And they don't help you learn? Just being a post? Yeah. All right, let's just move on to question two, which is...

[2:08]Um, I don't know. Okay, let's just do you guys even know like how you learn? Like, what's your GPA? Do you, like, pay attention in class, do you have Facebook? Like, what do you guys do? Um, why are you asking us? Are you judging us? No, I'm not judging you. I mean, don't be so defensive. I just want to know, like, what gets in the way of your learning. Like, are you one of those kids that has your laptop open on Facebook during lectures? Well, there's only three of us. Let's wrap this up. I'm just going to write down that you guys go on Facebook, and we can just like conclude this session. So, thanks for coming.

[3:39]Good morning, everyone. The purpose of this focus group is to offer your perspective on how you learn best. This information will be shared anonymously with faculty members, so feel free to give us all your thoughts on how you learn best. Sure. Um, I feel that generalization of students all being lazy and unmotivated is just not true. At times I become unmotivated because of how boring the class is. On the other hand, I'm super interested in being a social coordinator of the ski and board club. That's a great point, Craig. Now, think back to that time that you were bored. Could you explain to me, maybe, more why you were bored? Sure, I was bored. How do you learn best? Take your time. Please take space. Please feel free to share whatever comes to mind. I learn best when I can apply what I learn to my personal life. That's a great point, Shayan. Now, can you explain more about that connection? What are some barriers to your learning? Think of a time that you were in class and you started sleeping, playing games online, checking Facebook. I went to YouTube in class. That's a good example. And how does YouTube impact your learning?
