[0:00]Hey, I'm Amina, tutor of nine years and here's how to summarize a paragraph in three simple steps. Step one, you want to find the main idea. Obvious, I know, but how do you find the main idea? That's the tricky part. You want to ask yourself, what is this paragraph actually about and then try and summarize it in a sentence. Even better if you can get it down to two or three words. And then ask yourself if all the other ideas in that paragraph support the main idea that you wrote down. This is also a great trick for when you're doing a reading comprehension and a test. Read every paragraph and summarize it in two to three words next to it. That way you can always refer back to what each paragraph was about when you're answering the questions. Okay, back to summarizing. So you found your main idea, you wrote it down in a few words or a sentence. Now, you need to find the main key details that support that main idea. You don't need to have every single detail in there, just the main ones. So if this is your main idea, and these are your three main details and then there are minor details supporting each main detail, then you only want your main idea and your three main details. Once you've identified your main idea and your key details, then you can put them together in your own words and you're good to go. I'm going to move so you can take a screenshot.

[1:09]Awesome. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments and I'll see you next time.
