[0:01]The people of the Garden. There is a beautiful story from the Quran in Surah Qalam. Once upon a time in Sana'a, Yemen, there was a pious old man. He was very rich and wealthy. He had a beautiful garden filled with fruits. This pious man was very generous and every year, during the harvest time, he used to keep half of the crops and give the other half away to all of the poor people. The pious man let them come into his garden and take the delicious fruits. The pious man had around five sons, and slowly they started to become more greedy. They did not like that their father was giving away half of the harvest. They wanted to keep all of the crops so that they could make more money, but the father did not listen to them. So, every year, the father continued to give the fruits to the poor and needy. But, one day, the father passed away. So, the sons became the new owners of that beautiful garden. That year, the sons decided to come up with an evil plan. They decided that they were going to take all of the fruits from the garden before the harvest day. So the poor people could not get any fruits. One of the brothers told them that that was an evil idea. But the rest of the brothers convinced him to join their evil plan. We'll do it tomorrow, they said. But they did not say inshallah, which means if Allah wants it to happen. So, that night, when everyone was sleeping, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala decided to punish them and burned the whole garden until everything was destroyed. The brothers woke up before Fajr and started walking quietly to their garden so no one would hear them. When they came to the garden, they were shocked. Everything in the garden was black and burnt. They were confused and thought that maybe they walked into the wrong place. But, when they looked around, they realized that that was their garden. The brothers realized that this was a punishment from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for their evil plan. They started yelling and blaming each other for the evil plan, but then they realized that it was all of their faults because at the end, they all agreed to that evil plan. They felt ashamed for their actions and realized that nothing in this life belongs to them. Everything belongs to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And so, they asked for forgiveness from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and prayed for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's blessings in this world and the hereafter. This beautiful story is from Surah Qalam verses 17-33. This is a great reminder to all of us that everything belongs to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Only he can give all of our blessings. That is why it is so important to thank Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for his blessings since he can easily take it away from us. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala help us become more grateful to him and make our life beautiful in this life and the hereafter. Amen. And until next time, Assalamu Alaikum.
