[0:00]Back in 2023, I became addicted to discipline in about one day, doing something called the breadcrumb method.
[0:10]And I'm going to show you exactly what I do, though. Okay? I have the firm belief that you will never do anything that you don't want to do.
[0:15]As in whatever you do, even if it's a difficult run or sitting down to study or even playing video games, it has to be something that you want to do.
[0:23]So I don't believe the definition of discipline is doing something you don't want to do.
[0:28]I think discipline is finding a way to mentally influence yourself to do something.
[0:34]So for example, studying, I'm going to write this down, all right? Are you following?
[0:38]I did something called the breadcrumb method. Basically, I was too slow and unfocused and not very good at sitting down and working to sit down and work for like an hour a day.
[0:49]Even that was too difficult for me. So I had to do this. I got a little notebook. I sat down box, okay?
[0:55]This box represents five minutes work.
[1:00]So that would be writing, recording, editing the video. You start a timer. Notebook is next to you while you do the work. You complete the work and you tick it off.
[1:07]Now, at least for me, this personally triggered my, you know, those good feelings that you would get when you'd unlock a camo in Call of Duty.
[1:13]And then what would I do after this? Well, I've already got a tiny little dopamine rush from doing five minutes of work, so I'll do another one, another five minutes, tick it off.
[1:21]It would get to the point that I would start off working. First of all, by drawing like what five minute boxes or 10 minute boxes. Let's say all of these represent 10 minutes each.
[1:29]I'd start a timer and then I'd complete the 10 minutes, tick it off. Oh, I feel good. Tick it off again. I feel even better. Tick it off again, 10 minutes.
[1:37]This is giving us little seeds, little breadcrumbs to make sure that we complete the work. Why does it work? Because when we feel like we're accomplishing something on a smaller scale, first of all, it makes us feel good, and second of all, it encourages us to keep going.
[1:50]Now, let's say instead I decided to do one check box for one hour of work. My brain wasn't very good back then.
[1:58]wasn't very focused, so I probably wouldn't have completed it. So, do a little breadcrumbs in your notebook, all right? And then tick them off, and this will encourage you to become addicted to discipline.
[2:07]Because how do we get addictions? It's from the little dopamine rushes being created on a consistent enough level.
[2:13]It's like wanking, all right? To become addicted in about a day, five minutes of work, tick it off, five minutes, tick it off, five minutes, tick it off.
[2:20]Do you get what I mean, all right?
