[0:00]Hello, everyone. I am Dr. Daniel and I welcome you all for today's session on breast cancer. Let us discuss what is cancer. Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells which divides uncontrollably and has the ability to infiltrate and destroy the normal body tissue. Cancer often has the ability to spread throughout the body. What is breast cancer? Breast cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the breast. Breast cancer can begin from different parts of the breast. Breast cancer most commonly begins in the inner lining of the milk ducts or the lobules that supply them with milk. Types of breast cancer are ductal carcinoma in situ, invasive ductal carcinoma, invasive lobular carcinoma. Less common types are mucinous, medullary, tubular, and metaplastic breast cancer. What are the symptoms of breast cancer? Common symptoms include a lump or thickening in or near the breast or in the underarm area. A change in the size or shape of the breast. Nipple discharge or tenderness or the nipple turn inward. The skin of the breast, areola, or nipple may be scaly, red, or swollen, or may have ridges or pitting like the skin of an orange. What are the risk factors for breast cancer? The risk factors include older age, obesity, harmful alcohol use, family history of breast cancer, history of radiation exposure, and postmenopausal hormone therapy. What are the causes of breast cancer? Breast cancer is always caused by a series of mutations in the DNA. These mutations are errors that occur as cells divide and they also might be inherited. How to diagnose breast cancer? Common diagnostic procedures include a physical exam and a medical history, a mammogram, an ultrasound, a biopsy, and an MRI. How to treat breast cancer? Treatment for breast cancer depends on its stage and grade, and it also depends on the type of breast cancer. And the treatment options include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, and targeted drug therapy.
