They are me, Famela Marcha, name 14320073 as moderator also presenter and my partner is Putri Aliyanti, name 14320096. She will be a teacher on video practical teaching. We are going to explain to you all about Communicative Language Teaching. Do you know what is Communicative Language Teaching? The communicative language teaching or CLT that also known as communicative approach is an approach that aims to achieve communicative rather than linguistic competence through learner interaction. CLT has been accepted as one of the teaching methods by numerous language teachers due to its major focus on developing learner's communicative competence. So, the point is communication is the key. Jadi, pada dasarnya bahasa adalah suatu alat untuk berkomunikasi kan ya, bukan hanya sekedar seperangkat aturan saja. Oleh karena itu, metode CLT ini dia itu lebih mengajarkan tentang bagaimana menggunakan bahasa, bukan hanya mempelajari tentang aturan bahasa tersebut saja, bukan hanya mempelajari tentang grammar-nya saja, tetapi penggunaan bahasanya. Karena pengajaran-pengajaran tentang aturan bahasa tidak diberikan secara langsung, melainkan tersirat dalam proses pembicaraan pada saat belajar. Oke, next is CLT purpose yaitu tujuan dari CLT. The first one is students can use language to communicate and the second one is students can use language to express things. Of course, sudah jelas sekali tujuan dari CLT ini yaitu agar siswa bisa menggunakan bahasa sebagai alat untuk berkomunikasi dan juga untuk berekspresi baik untuk bertanya, untuk memuji, dan untuk hal-hal yang lainnya. CLT was born in the 1980's. In this method, students do most of the talking.
[2:40]This enables students to practice communicating in English continuously talking with each other rather than listening to a lecture. The intent behind the communicative approach to speaking is to have students practice English without fear of awkwardness or making mistakes when learning language. How if students making mistakes? What should teachers do? Instead of interrupting or correcting students when they're make mistakes, instructor's teachers or lecture who utilize the CLT approach might use indirect feedback that do not interrupt a conversation. They might reform faulty grammatical like if students say he shoes is old. Teachers can give feedback like, yes his shoes are old to give students clues for further conversation. In the class, teachers can doing anything, any social interaction like dialogue, discussion, role play, interviews, surveys, pair works, games or anything that can improve student's communication skills in English. Okay, there are advantages and disadvantages for CLT. Advantages for CLT, there are all students are active in the classroom. And then, CLT can make students excited and motivated. And then, students can speak, communicate and also express things in target language. And also there is disadvantages. The first one is this method is a bit difficult to apply in a very crowded class. Second, some students are shy or hard to speak in English. Third, CLT only focuses on communicative fluency but not accuracy. Fourth, the teacher must be the one who has vast knowledge of both foreign and mother tongue. And then the last, fifth, the teacher monitoring skills must be great. So, the conclusion, CLT was born in the 1980's. This strategy to language teaching is based on the philosophy that in order to learn a language, one must practice using that language to communicate meaning to others. Simply, it is a relationship between language and communication. Language competence relies upon the presence of linguistic and communicative competence.
