[0:00]Make some noise for Cotis in the building, boys. What is up, boys? Oh my goodness. Wow. So surreal to be here. Oh my God. No, we've been looking forward to this moment since we heard your music from the getgo. We knew something special was happening with you guys. Thank you for joining us live in the morning. Thank you for having us. Yes, sir. Thank you so much. So, please, for everybody out there, introduce yourselves one at a time, because it's the first time we've met and we're going to do this one time and one time only and then we're friends. Let's go. Yes, sir. Um, I'm going to start. Um, so, yeah, we are Cotis. We just had our roll out like two months ago with our first album, first EP, um, Color outside the lines. I'm Martin, I'm the leader of the group. What's up? Yeah, hi. I'm my name is Kono and I'm I'm the youngest member of the team. Pleasure to be here. Uh, I'm Juhun and it's an honor to be here. I'm Sangyon and yeah, happy to be here. I'm James, and actually, I heard this is a new studio. You're right. Yes. This is. I mean, it's so fancy. It's nice, right? It's cool. It's got a good vibe to it. But it wouldn't exist without you. Wouldn't exist without musicians and artists and people who bring your energy and your music into this room, so we appreciate you being here. All right. Congratulations on the release of the EP. How'd you celebrate? Or were you just working when it came out like, all right, back to work? Or did Do you have a moment where you got to actually come together and say, James, were you able to come together and say, you know what, we did this, you know, no matter what happens from now on, we got this project and we crossed this line. Oh, I think actually for us, it's been an ongoing process so it's it's just next, next, next and new music, new music, new music, new music. So we are here actually to make new music also. Song camp and For the second album. Yeah, because your first one's ready to go in September, right? That's amazing. You still listening to it? Yeah. You're a fan of your music? I mean, since since we came to LA, like, it kind of like has a throwback, like because we wrote the whole album in LA. Like it's like what you want, like really has that good, like Tame Impala vibes to it, so like, kind of like, I got to listen to it when I come back to LA. Yeah, beautiful. And good memories attached to it, too. What's one of your favorite things about Los Angeles having spent time here? LA, yo, the weather is really nice, you know? Like, it's always sunny and like it it really is a good inspiration, you know? Like it just I mean, Joy Ride, it I think it really contains good mellow vibe of LA and like, you know, ride in along the Malibu Beach, like you can listen to Joy Ride and like, you can feel the vibe. That must have been nice for you guys to make your music and then get your monitor mixes or whatever before it gets fully finished and just when it just belongs to you. And be able to just pick your moment where you get to listen to it and know that, you know, you've made something original. Can you remember one really special memory when you were making the album out here in Los Angeles that you'll always try to hold onto? Wow. I mean, we met a lot of um, great people, like some writers and producers, and I I still remember that the session that we made Go. We worked with Johnny Goldstein, such a great producer. And yeah, actually it was our first um, song camp session in LA. Yeah, and then straight out the gate. Straight out the gate. You're excited, huh? You went in there and we're like, we're not leaving without one today. Actually, like, before like the song Go started, like, we had a very, very long session. And then Go just started from him just playing the keys. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And everybody started like, go. Go and like jump around and like, yeah, and that that was like that came from a very organic space. Yeah. And like everybody was like crazy in the studio, so. Yeah. This this song was great. That's one of the things I think that, you know, we've connected with your music at the gate is that um, you know, and I mean this with respect to to to any way that artists come together or form to create, but I feel like the five of you, it's a very natural chemistry between the five of you. Doesn't doesn't feel forced in any capacity. It feels like like that description of go. It rings true when you hear the song that, you know, it just came from the fun part of being Cotis. Right. I think it's like, um, we just like to have fun doing music and like anything like craft. Like it it could be videos, it could be like photography. Like, I think we just really enjoyed the process. Like, it's just such a fun thing to like express yourself. Your job is to be creative. Yeah. I mean, like, that's just music. Anything. We love to take photos, like take videos, everything, you know? You know, the first time anyone mentioned you, you guys is that, you know, you're very creative individuals.
[4:52]Um, that each of you bring, you know, a lot of different creative energy to it. True. Um, that you're very involved in your own choreography, that you love to pick your own moves. That's an interesting challenge to set for yourselves, right? Because it's like writing a performing is one thing, but then of course, figuring out how you're going to present the music in video is is a whole other a whole other level. So, let's talk a little bit about that and and what you love about that, but also what's hard about that. I think personally, the hard part is we have five heads. Yeah. A lot of ideas. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so we kind of throw our ideas onto the wall and see what sticks. Yes. But like our ideas clash. And especially, like, we have different influences. We watch different movies, we watch different films. We have different tastes. Let's talk about your tastes actually as as the five of you. I'd love to go around each of you and ask you, you know, like and it doesn't even have to be specific to a to an artist or a movie or anything, just something that really inspires you that defines your taste. Starting with you. I think anime, yeah, anime definitely, uh, is a big inspiration. I think the proportions and like the drawing style and the music that matches the anime, I think those things really um show in our videography and um um yeah, great movies, great movies. I think, um. You want to give us an artist as well? You want to give us an artist, a music artist? Recently Youngblood. Yeah, nice shot. On a tear right now, Youngblood. Absolute tear. He's finally getting the recognition he deserves. Yeah, he is. I mean, you know, he's an incredible performer and artist, you know, he's just interesting about Youngblood. And I've spoken to him about this is, you know, he's such a free thinker. He moves in so many different styles and genres. Sometimes it's hard for people to figure out what young blood you're getting. Yes. But that's actually his strength. It just takes time to get there. Let's talk about your taste and what you love. Yeah. Um, for me, I think, I don't know, like the weather when I come to LA, like, Yeah. Weather is too good, so that I can chill with like, everything, you know? You love nature? Yes. Yeah. I love being outside and, you know, like, with like, vanilla latte. You know, this is your This is your lifestyle guy right here. Don't worry about your lifestyle. I's got you covered. What kind of music? I mean, when you were sort of growing up, or what do you love to listen to? Like, what really inspires you musically? Oh, so I'm such a chill person. I like, I really like to listen to some peaceful music. We have a radio station for you, bro. Apple Music chill is like the best chill experience in the world, hands down. Yes, I recently bought a vinyl of Chet Baker. Yeah. Chet Baker sings. Yes. Yes. That was crazy. My guy. Yeah. Now we're talking, dude. That's like real. Like I have a lot of Chet Baker on vinyl as well and I'm a massive Chet Baker fan and there's something about the way that he sings, which is just Take your things. It's like a combination of beauty and real sadness. Yeah. It's like, you know, it's like a beautiful sadness.
[7:55]My guy. What about you, man? Yeah, I think um, not just music, I think for me, like going to like new cities, it's like the most um, inspiration to me. We actually we've actually been to New Zealand for a music video. We appreciate you. We appreciate you. Okay. Okay. New Zealand was crazy. Thank you. It was beautiful. Yeah, it was beautiful. The nature. So glad you got to go there and experience it. And you shot a video down there. Yes. We went to the um, the the glaciers. Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was It was freezing. The whole video was crazy. You had to get one of those. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I got one of those planes once and the pilot thought he was a joker. And we were driving towards the face of a mountain and he was like, I'm not sure we're gonna make it. I'm like, bro, don't even play around with me. Whoa. He was serious. It's pretty amazing when you land on the glacier, right? And you realize like, wow, it's sort of feels very alien. Yes, yes. It's like you're in a different planet. Yes, man. It feels like you're in a movie or something. Every time I step my feet goes like, Yeah.
[9:02]Oh, oops. I'm so glad you had you got a chance to experience that. It's very rare. It's it's like amazing to get up there and do that. What a beautiful place to film. Um, let's talk about you, bro. Me, um, me musically, I I grew up listening to a lot of rock music, so my dad used to play me like Elliot Smith, um, I don't know, like so many artists like Tame Impala, sometimes it was like full fighters, so I grew up listening to a lot of rock music, but then like when I joined this company, I got to know ASAP Rocky, so I listened to his first EP and it was first um mixtape and it was like so far, so I had to like, What's a rock? And Rock is a rock star, man. Yeah. Rock is a rock star. He's got that same energy, you know. Yeah. You can put him in that category. And I noticed that like, I kind of like Memphis music. A lot of funk and like a lot of Memphis, so like Freddie Dread, all those like, you know, funk artists really influenced me a lot like the Flows, Project Pat, Triple Six Mafia, like. How magic is music? So magic. Magic. Yeah. Ah, boys. Caught us through in the house everybody. Round of applause. Yes, sir. So who are some of the people that you've collaborated with that you love to collaborate with? Like real talk. Like, who have you been in? Who have you been in the studio with, or who have you met and collaborated with that you love artist-wise? Teezo. You love Teezo? Teezo. We got to talk about Teezo, man. Yes. We can talk about Teezo, but we can also just like you're playing his music. Oh, no way. No way. Oh, whoa. Oh, look who it is. Oh. Oh, Teezo. What's up, Teezo? What's going on?
[10:39]Yo, what's up, man? This is crazy. We're in LA. Teezo.
[10:46]Yo, yo, they they're amazing, Zane. They work so hard. Like that's been in this for a second, man. Good to see you all, boys. You've been still, man. Yeah. Hey, look, you know what's crazy, man? I get a lot of I get um, I'm kind of known for keeping the same number. I'm crazy that you have the same number still. It's just like, Dude, why would we change it? Why would we change it? Why would we change it? I don't have to change it. I ain't give it to people I care about, bro. Just hit me any time. Exactly, man. It's always good to see your name on the phone, man. It's good to see y'all, boys. You. Teezo, man. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you, man. Again. Thank you so much. Come on, lads. Let's talk about Teezo and what that experience, because you literally say we've got to talk about Teezo and then I faceTimed him. So, let's talk about what let's talk about Teezo.
[12:24]Okay. So, now it's me. Um, I'm talking about you. So, um, Tee is crazy because like, he pulled up to pulled up to the session with a blue balloon. Yes. It's nothing He's like any like blew blue into it as we like as he asked like what we want most in life.
[12:49]And um, and he was and he was putting it all into the balloon. Word by word. Word by word. And as we uh, and we played the track like the what you want track and we And he got in like he got into to the booth and it's like he's dancing all around. Yeah, he's dancing all around. He's standing on the chair. He's standing on the chair. Yeah. He's that for sure. For sure. Well, we've got him on the phone, boys. Wanna say quick goodbye to Teezo? It was a nice little touch. Man, we love you, bro. You know that. Come back soon, please. Yeah, see you soon. See you soon. Thank you. Love you, bro. See you, man. There you go, Teezo. Everybody, round of applause for the one and only. What an absolute legend that guy is, man. Incredible. Um and what and amazing for you guys to be able to to get that that wonderful collaborative experience that early on with somebody who is one of the most underman collaborators in modern music. I mean, he even like came He like showed love to Korea and he came over to Korea, um, did a show with us. Yeah. Um, a music show and um, and he he even like we even had dinner together like Samgyupsal, like for early. Yeah. It's not it's not hard to go to Seoul, guys. It's it's a pretty amazing place. Like it's like not a hard place to to want to go to. Like it it may take a while, but it's worth it. You know, I went out there for a few days, um, when I got to talk to Jungkook. Oh. And it was it was truly one of the most profound amazing few days of travel I've ever had. Oh, wow. So nice. It's so special. It's so incredible how you have this city which has been really beautifully created in in terms of like a, you know, a modern Gotham, but then it it it's nestled so beautifully in what surrounds it, which is nature, right? It feels just like it's based and it's insane. That's good. That's good. For the people for the people who've never been. I mean, that's I mean, that's a terrible Yelp review. No one's going to give me five stars for that. But what do you love about it? For me, I feel like Korea captures like a good nostalgic feeling and a modern feeling at the same time. So like me, I'm like, like when I'm when I'm out in like Kangnam or like Chongdam, it feels like so modern and fast, but at the same time, when I'm at like my hometown, which is Sopa, it's like everything is so nostalgic still. It's 2025 and it still feels nostalgic. So, how does it feel being young there right now? Because when I went out, every time I went for a drink or had some food, the restaurants and the bars were owned by very young people. And I got to I got to chat to somebody who was saying to me that there's like, um, and I I could be wrong, but he was saying that, um, that there are like, uh, uh, there's support for young people in hospitality to go and build businesses and try to do things. Is that true? I mean, is is there opportunities? Does it feel good like a good time, a good place to be when you're young? I I think yeah. I think Korea Korea is a great place to, you know, like maybe start a franchise. Um it it is like a great place to like for youngs, like. I think yeah. Everybody there are like great, great adults who can just help us. Yeah. Give us great advice. Yes. And like Yeah. Just our some names, our seniors like BTS and JST. They're all they all gave us great advice. Great advice. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a really important point because I'm sure fans listening will feel like because there is a this this whole music thing has been turned into a competitive environment at times for entertainment's sake. Can I get it? It's like, okay, let's compete together in the band. Let's compete to do this. And I understand the competitive nature of wanting to be successful, even in the arts, right? It comes with the territory. But I think it's really lovely that you talk about the relationship you can build with the people who are part of the family, who aren't necessarily competing with you. They want you to win. Yes. Yes. It's really a big family and like they really open and pave the way for us so we can like really fool around and have fun with our music. And then like Yeah. If it wasn't them, we won't be in LA. Yeah. For real, for real. That's about to go crazy, man. This BTS thing's about to go crazy. This is about to go crazy. They keep showing up on social media playing with us all. That's about to go crazy. I mean, they they um, actually, uh, many some names, many like senior artists did did the um, challenge for go and fashion. But especially um, J-Hope, some of them and um, Jungkook, some of them did like the challenge for both of the songs. It's crazy. I mean, it's it's such an honor and such a blessing to see them do the challenge. So, you see what's going on right now? This is like some Formula One Pits Cup shit going on right now. Your man is like literally holding down his throat, while his headphone jack comes out. He's continuing to talk while he's plugging it back in, which I've tried to do this. It is not easy. And then your man over here is just like, yo, I'm the youngest. Let me help my guy out. I got this, bro. Don't worry about it. We're in LA, bro. Wow. That was epic. All right, before we say goodbye, because this is just the first conversation of hopefully many chances for us to get to know each other and talk about your music, because I know you love music. Let's talk about this album, which is coming in September, right? Which I'm sorry, not September, this this this debut album, right? You guys got gone. Let's talk a little bit about like, um, what your favorite song is on it, what you love about it, what you're most proud of about this album. Oh. I think it is a capture of our um, lifestyle and a capture of our um, ourselves. We we like treat our music like a diary and a journal, because like, you know, every lyrics in there is like, it's literally about us and our lifestyle. I like sometimes we have to like take a step back and like, I mean, this this like something like this is really cool, but it's this us, so we were like talking about that conversation for a long time and that's how the lyrics turn out. Yeah, so like we have five songs and it sounds very different, like. Yeah. Like it starts from go, something is really energetic and it fashion, like it gets even energetic. What you want, like it goes up and like, you know, like Joy Ride and Love Vibes kind of chill, so like, you like this five songs can show like like five different angles of us through like this album and like we really think like like this album is really raw. So like, you know, we try to express like our like true self. Our realness. Yeah. And like I think that that's the point of this album. Oh, yeah. Authentic. I love that. You know, the fact that you know, you're already showing us where you how diverse your interests are and and you're trying to get to that honest place on your first five song project is crazy. I mean, I think honesty is the key, you know, when it comes to art, music, like when it comes to us, like, I think we really um, tried to make everything authentic and like at the same time having fun, you know, just like keeping things like real. Like the Lullaby music video is one thing that we could talk about. Like, um, Lullaby was shot because it like it's literally for the for the ones who don't know the music video, it's like a Coca-Cola can, um, looking like it's like the um, point of view of a hand. Point of view of a hand. And um, we like jump into the pool and then everything like it go it gets crazy and um, actually we it was an excuse to get into the pool. Yeah. It was a hot day. It was a hot day. The manager, who didn't want to shoot actually we didn't want to shoot a video for Lullaby. But then like, let's use this chance to get in the pool. Yeah. Yes. Because the manager's like, somehow didn't let us get into the pool. Like, our Airbnb had a pool and then, you know, we had to get in there. The beautiful thing about a pool is that no one needs to give you permission to get in the pool, which is a pool. Like, you know, oh, shit, sorry. I slept. I fell in the pool. My bad. Now everyone's got to get in the pool. Oops. Oops. Sorry, man. I'm in the pool. Um, something tells me that you guys are going to have a lot of fun, uh, taking the advice and the collaborative opportunities and the inspiration from those around you who care about you, but also doing what you want to do. Yes. And I really I really love that. I love the fact that, you know, you as a band, you've clearly put your foot down in terms of what matters to you and people have listened. And so, to me, it's feels like a a new a new era. And and I'm excited for all this to come. We had a really good time meeting each and every one of you. And uh, should we say goodbye to the fans before we before we leave? Say goodbye to this live. Yes, sir. Um, one by one, I would I would like to say, um, thank you for watching. If you guys are watching right now and thank you for showing great love for the first EP, Color Outside the Lines. We love you guys. Thank you. Yeah. Um, love you so much and it's a it's a pleasure to be here. Legendary show. Zane Lowe show. My god. My god. Yeah. We had fun. What come on, man. You want to say something to the people? How'd you enjoy it? Yeah. I hope you enjoy it and yeah, it it was really an honor to be here and you know, share our music and thank you, Zane Lowe. Well, thank you. Thank you. I had so much fun in here and yeah, happy to be here and yeah, love you guys. Yes. Um, thank you, Zane Lowe and we might need one of those, one of those turntables. Yeah. For sure. For sure. Don't worry, I'm sure you guys will get that hook up. Don't worry about that. All right, fashion people, caught us in the house. Yeah, boys. Yeah, you see
