They can feel on the softer side, these cancers. And on imaging studies, they may look like a benign nodule, but as they grow, they can invade the surrounding tissue. Feel firmer like a knuckle, and stick to the surrounding tissue. And then more importantly, benign tumors generally don't have any pain, but cancerous tumors can become painful. So if you're having a lump in your parotid and it's painful, that's a bad sign. If you have any weakness, which may mean that your facial nerve branches are being invaded by this tumor.
