What is Recycling? How to Save Our Planet & Protect the Environment

[0:07]Have you used a paper bowl or spoon at the cafeteria and saw a sign like this? Or heard your friends and teachers talk about recycling paper and plastics? Well, what exactly is recycling? Recycling is a process where we convert and use waste materials into other reusable materials. For example, if we wrapped our shoe box and lid in decorative paper, and then used it to store our drawing materials, then we are recycling. There are actually three hours of recycling. The first R is reduce. This means to use less. For example, if you're purchasing one water bottle and refilling it and carrying it around with you, then you are doing the first R, which is to reduce. The second R is reuse. This means to use it again, for example, trading in your used batteries or old computers instead of throwing it away. The third R is recycle. This means buying recycled products. But why do we need to recycle anyway? We recycle so we can help our planet. When we recycle, we reduce land, water, and air pollution on the planet, and save lives of animals and plants on Earth. Did you know that we can recycle plastic like soft drink bottles, glass bottles, jars like those of our favorite jams, and newspapers? Exciting, isn't it?
