[0:00]Today I will teach you four factors that cause finrot and how to avoid it. Be sure to watch the complete video. Vpi Channel, I'm Vills, I'm here to coach you, to guide you, and to give you knowledge about guppy keeping. And I would like to thank everyone who are still watching from the very first day up to this moment of time. Thank you so much because our channel is now monetized, and if you want to continue to support this channel, I'm asking you not to skip any ads. So thank you so much. And for today's topic, as most requested by almost everyone, how to cure finrot. So I would like to make a vlog about that, but, uh I believe that, um we need to know more first, uh what is the cause of finrot, and how to prevent or get rid of it? So I believe prevention is better than cure. So for today's vlog, we will, um know first or understand first what is finrot, uh what is the cause of finrot, and how can we prevent it? But first we need to tackle what is finrot. So finrot is a bacterial or fungal infection. It always damages the fin. So this is the example of a guppy that has a finrot. So most of the time the symptoms is reddish in form. The fins are like decaying or rotting. It eats up the fins of our guppy. So if this disease is not treated, most probably our guppy will surely die. So we need to really understand and know what is the cause of finrot, or why our guppy fish is having this kind of a very deadly disease for our guppies. So today I will give you a four over that can cause finrot. First, over excited. A breeder especially newbie are tempted to buy guppies without much preparation on their tank setup. So at first, many newbie buyers tend to buy fish even without buying first tanks. So the rule of the thumb in guppy keeping, you need to set up first the tank before buying fish, not the other way around, buying fish first without having any tank. We need to know that there is a very important preparation before putting our fish on a newly set up tank and that preparation is called water cycling or tank cycling.

[3:51]So that is very important. So I made an example. So this tank is not water cycled. This is only a two days old setup tank. So I put my albino full red, and look what happened. Look at their fins, or their caudal. All of them has finrot, because this tank never undergone a water cycle process. So, this is an example of cycling a tank for an aquarium. So do not put guppy fish yet.

[4:34]Just let the aeration flow. So in this process, we are building good bacteria in our filter media.

[4:57]So if this is the aim, or the goal of this process, so that our tanks and aquarium will gain, uh much good bacteria to fight the ammonia, because good bacteria neutralizes the ammonia. So ammonia is a bad component. It is the one responsible for the disease, all kinds of disease of our fish is caused by the rise of level of ammonia in our tanks. So to all our viewers, please do not be over excited. Be sure that you cycled first your aquarium tanks, because new setup tanks will always cost or will give us a high percentage that our guppies will end up with finrot and other kind of disease. So the perfect duration of a water cycled tank is one month. But 15 days or two weeks is fine and okay. So please guys, once again, I'm pleading, especially our newbie keepers. Please cycle first your tank before buying any guppy fish. The second factor that cause finrot is overcrowding. So be sure that our tanks are not overcrowded or overpopulated by guppies. As I've said from my previous vlogs that one guppy fish per one gallon, so if you have 10 gallon tank, so 10 guppies. If you have 15 gallon tanks, if you are using 15 gallons, the maximum is 15 guppies. So if you are using five gallons, the maximum is five. The reason is more guppies, more poops. So because the poops are responsible for making the ammonia level in our tanks high. So more poops, the higher the ammonia level on our tanks. So be sure that our guppy are not overcrowded on our tank. Again, one guppy per gallon. So the third factor that can cause finrot is overfeeding. So it is undeniable that it's so fun to watch our fish feeding their fish food. However, when we overfeed them, it has a negative effect. Excess food when it is dissolved can cost or can produce ammonia on our tanks. So feed only what is enough for them. So the best ratio for the amount of food that I, the guppy is consuming is the amount that they can consume in 30 seconds. So if you observed that your guppies cannot consume whatever amount you are giving them in 30 seconds, you are overfeeding. And continuing doing that can uh increase the level of ammonia in your tanks. So make sure that your guppies can consume whatever you are giving them in 30 seconds or less than 30 seconds. So do not overfeed. So the last factor that can cause finrot is overdue or out of date water change. So do not let fish waste, excess food to stay longer on our tanks, because it is the main source of ammonia on our tank. So be sure that you have scheduled water change, especially when your tanks are new, or the setup of your tanks are still new. Once or twice a week would do. And if you observe, um I'm shared that I'm just doing a water change twice a month. So every 15 days only I'm doing my water change. It is because my tanks are already cycled for eight months. So I'm pretty sure, I'm assured that it has a lot of good bacteria that can neutralize ammonia. So, but if your tanks of if your setup are still new, be sure to water change regularly. But if your water, uh is already six months, eight months or one one year old already, so you can even water change in just twice a month. So, the newer the tank, the often you need to water change. So guys, that's all for today. I hope you got it all the four factors that can cause finrot uh to our guppies. So once again, do not be over excited. Always get your tank cycled first, uh before uh putting some guppy fish. Do not overcrowd or overpopulate. Remember, one guppy per gallon, and do not overfeed. Uh just feed, uh what they can consume in 30 seconds. That the best, that is the best uh ratio, or the best amount of uh food that we can give our guppies. And lastly, do not be out of date in changing your water, especially when your tanks are still new, or the setup are still new. So I promise to follow up the vlog about uh curing or how to cure guppy fish with finrot. So thank you again, guys, for watching. But before that, I want to shout out our viewer from Washington D.C., America. Crowntail, uh half moon. So thank you for watching, sir. Thank you for watching uh Filipino Guppy uh channel. So it is an honor to be watched by an American friend. I want to shout out also our co-keepers who are watching locally here in the Philippines, my uh friends in Gensan.
