But fast forward one year, and something shifted. Programming with AI agents isn't a novelty anymore. It's becoming the default workflow for professionals, not for throwaway stuff. For real production software. Engineers aren't typing code line by line. They're orchestrating AI agents that write the code while they act as oversight, reviewing, directing, making sure quality doesn't slip. Andrej Karpathy coined the term vibe coding for that early era. But what's emerging now is something different. He's calling it agentic engineering. Agentic because you're not writing code directly anymore. You're managing agents who do. Engineering because there's real skill and depth to doing this well. It's not just prompting and praying.
