Lesson 1 - Ethical Website Development

[0:04]All actions have consequences, whether legal or otherwise, so it's wise to stay on the ethical side in your interactions and conversations with clients. Ethics can be described as moral principles that guide a person to do the right thing. As a website designer and developer, you have a responsibility to run an ethical business when it comes to website builds and client interactions. You also have a responsibility to advise your clients on ethical practices. When website designers and developers fail to practice ethical website development, we end up with stereotypes that reflect poorly on the industry and rob others of trust. How often have you worked with a client that has been burned by a website developer, or spent hours trying to rescue a domain that's been held hostage? Or restored a hacked website because of poor choices from previous developers. In this course, we'll review ethical concerns for website development and running a business. Lessons will explore the ethics of privacy, user trust, content use, coding, contracting and outsourcing, client access and business transactions, and our responsibility to the community at large. The larger objective and goal of this course is for you to then form your ethical business standards as you become aware of questionable and ethical practices. By taking this course, you are contributing to the solution to help strengthen the integrity of the website design and development community.
