The Meaning Behind the Bronze Serpent (John 3:14–15)

[0:00]Why did the bronze serpent heal the Israelites? It wasn't the bronze, nor the pole, nor any power in the object. The people were dying because of their rebellion, and God gave them a sign that pointed beyond the desert. All they had to do was look in faith. Jesus later revealed the meaning in John 3:14-15 saying that just as Moses lifted up the serpent, He himself would be lifted up so that all who believe would live. The healing was never in the sculpture. It was in the surrender, the turning of the heart back to the God they had pushed away. When they looked, they lived. When they trusted, they were restored. And that moment in the wilderness became a shadow of a far greater salvation where one look to Christ still brings life today for every seeking soul who turns toward Him in faith.
