[0:00]It all starts deep in the Amazon rainforest, where the birds were just living their best lives. They were completely content dancing, singing, and zipping through the trees. Everything was perfect until, whoosh, a plane roared overhead. It completely disrupted their beautiful singing. Before they knew it, these gorgeous birds were snatched up, crammed into cages, and flown away. The cages ended up being transferred to a truck. Now, imagine this, the truck is barreling along when it suddenly hits a bump, tilts, and a single wooden box slides right out onto the road. The driver didn't even notice. The box was just left behind. A little girl comes walking by and, curious, she opens it up. Inside, a tiny, incredibly cute male blue macaw. She was over the moon. She took him home, played with him constantly, and talked to him all the time. The little girl, now a young woman named El Glinda, and the blue macaw, whom she named Blue, had grown up together. They were the very best of friends. Linda was super protective and spent most of her time in her massive library. People would come to her library not just for books, but increasingly, they'd come to see Blutch. One day, a man arrived, having traveled a great distance. He explained to Linda that he was there for Blu because he was the last male of his entire species. The man, who had his own female blue macaw, asked Linda for a huge favor, to help save the species like by letting the two parrots breed. If they didn't, the species would become extinct. Linda thought, wow, this is a good idea. The man said, you just have to bring Blu to my country. Linda's face fell. Oh, I'm sorry, I can't come with you, she told him firmly. She was so flustered she even told him to leave her library saying, I have no time. Linda would try to teach him every single day, but something always went wrong. One day, watching him struggle, Linda felt a pang of guilt. Blu, she thought, what am I doing to you? You can't even fly and you're missing out on everything a bird should do. That's when she remembered the man's offer. The decision clicked. She had to go. So, Linda and Blu finally made the journey to the man's country. The man, a veterinary doctor, had his own spet clinic, and it was filled with other birds. Blu was absolutely delighted to see them. An employee at the clinic warned Linda and Blu that the female parrot was aggressive. Look what she did to my face, he complained. Blu got really nervous, but the doctor assured him she was a good parrot and introduced them. They left Blu and the female parrot together, hoping they would hit it off. The doctor and Linda watched them on a monitor, but the conversation was anything but friendly. They started fighting. The female parrot immediately judged Blu, asking, you've been locked up in a cage in a human's house for all these years. Look at me, I live in the open. He sold them to a group of men. They were smugglers who specialized in selling exotic birds. The quick thinking female parrot whispered to Blu, quick, act dead. They both played possum. When the smuggler opened the cage to grab the female, she suddenly bit his hand and flew out. But poor Blu, bless his heart, didn't do the trick and stayed put. Then, a creepy looking white cockatoo arrived and recaptured the female. The smugglers locked them up again, but this time, they weren't taking any chances. They chained their feet. We don't need you anymore. Leave. The boy was devastated. He realized how selfish they were, only caring about the money and giving him barely anything. He suddenly felt terrible for the birds. On the run. Meanwhile, Blu and the female parrot noticed a window and managed to escape. But with their feet chained together, they couldn't fly properly. Plus, remember, Blu didn't know how to fly at all, having never lived in the open. What could they do now? They had to run. Running with chained feet, they made it to a forest. Exhausted, the female parrot managed to fly up and perch on a high ledge. Blu looked up, terrified. I'm scared, he admitted. I've never been here before. The female parrot snapped back, you're such a scaredy cat, have some courage. They settled down and slept. Back in the city, Linda and the doctor were frantic. They spent the night putting up missing parrot posters, until they were so tired they just collapsed and fell asleep outside. They woke up the next morning to the sight of the same little boy who had stolen the birds. He showed them a single parrot feather and signaled for them to follow him. The smugglers, in the meantime, discovered their captives were gone. In a desperate and silly move, they locked two ordinary hens in the cage after painting them blue. When the lead smuggler saw this, he exploded. I'm not a child. I need those parrots today. I have to deliver them. The great escape. In the forest, Blu and the female parrot were desperate to break the chain. They tried flying and throwing stones at it, but nothing worked. Then, they noticed a nest of blackbird babies gash and started playing with them. When the mother blackbird returned, she was touched by their kindness and agreed to help break their chain. But danger was lurking. The creepy white cockatoo arrived in the forest and scared a group of little monkeys into searching for the parrots. The female parrot was now focused on teaching Blu to fly. They tried and tried, but Blu couldn't get the hang of it. During one attempt, they crashed right into his paraglider. Blu was ecstatic, he was finally flying above the clouds. He was enjoying the ride until a hole ripped in the paraglider and they tumbled down. Carnival chaos. Back in a Rios, the boy was leading Linda and the doctor through the heavy traffic, so he hopped on a bike with them to weave their way through the streets. Blu and the female parrot, along with the blackbird family, ended up in the city, where they met other birds and were thrilled to have company. Soon, they were all in the middle of a carnival. It was a party. Suddenly, the monkeys sent by the white cockatoo arrived. A huge bird fight broke out. All the other birds yelled at Blu and his female companion to escape. Blu, the blackbirds and their new friends, all took refuge on the roof of a boss bus. The boy led Linda and the doctor right to the sea smuggler's hideout, where they discovered the men were smuggling many other birds. The parrots, meanwhile, found their way to a spoll dog that was known for helping birds break their chains. The bulldog tried to cut their chain with a blade. Blu got so scared and they ran away, nearly falling, but the bulldog managed to save them. The female parrot flew free immediately. But poor Blu. He couldn't fly, so he was left behind. He was heartbroken, thinking all the birds had only been helping the female parrot. He got depressed and started walking away. The climax. The female parrot flew back for him. Go away, Blu snapped. I don't need you. I'm going back to my real friend, Linda. Hurt, the female parrot flew off, only to be captured by the creepy white cockatoo. The other birds saw it happen and rushed back to tell Blu. Blu immediately went to the bulldog for help and rode on its head back toward the carnival. Linda was there too. She was dancing in a blue costume so she could search for him. She saw him and called out, but Blu didn't listen. He was focused on saving his female friend. He jumped onto the smuggler's cars, where they were taking the other birds to be shipped out. The white cockatoo was there guarding the cages. The car stopped at the Sepfort and the smugglers began loading the cages onto a plane. Linda and the doctor, having sped over from the carnival, arrived just in time. Linda desperately tried to ram the plane with the car, but she missed. Inside the plane, Blu saw a cylinder. He had an idea. He tied the cylinder to his cage and threw it, causing the door to burst open. Free, he quickly opened the other cages. All the birds were finally free. Blu opened the plane's exit door and all the birds flew out, but the female parrot luckily stopped with Blu. The white cockatoo arrived to stop them. The female parrot confronted him, demanding he release Blu. But the white cockatoo just shoved her away. She fell a great distance, and one of his feathers got stuck in a cage. Blu noticed the cylinder was about to explode. Thinking fast, he tied the white cockatoo's foot to the cylinder. It exploded, and both the cockatoo and the cylinder were blown out of the plane. The cylinder hit the engine, destroying the plane. Blu and the female parrot were forced to jump. This time, Blu somehow finally learned to fly. He saved the female parrot by cushioning her fall with his own wings. They flew straight to Linda, who was absolutely ecstatic. She cheered for them as they took off together, heading back to the rainforest. And that, my friend, is how the first part of their story had a very happy ending.
