[0:01]Making cold process soap with just three ingredients. See video description for a full list of equipment required. You probably have it already. Two Pyrex jugs are ideal. Olive oil and caustic soda.
[0:27]Weigh 234 grams of water. Set aside. Next for the caustic soda, put on your gloves. In a small jar, weigh 115 grams of caustic soda. Put lid on and set aside.
[1:06]Now to use your largest Pyrex jug. Weigh 900 grams of olive oil. Time to make the lye solution. Put on your mask, gloves and goggles.
[1:25]Slowly pour the caustic soda into the water. Stir well. Notice the steam from the heat. Add your thermometer and set aside in a safe place away from children and animals. Notice how high the temperature is, 94 degrees C already. Leave to cool to a minimum of 45 degrees Celsius, about 40 minutes. With your stick blender turned on, slowly pour the lye solution into the olive oil. Keep blending until oil and lye have emulsified, about one minute. You can see the oil on the surface still. Not fully emulsified just yet. Make sure the blades are not turning when you lift the blender out of the mixture. Once the blender leaves a trace on the surface of the mixture, it's ready. If you over blend it, it will get too thick to pour.
[2:53]Carefully pour soap mixture into molds.
[3:22]This recipe makes almost a kilo of soap. Set aside and leave 48 hours to harden. Ready to unmold.
[3:36]Notice how the yellow color has disappeared. They pop out so easily. Place on a metal cooling rack and leave 4 weeks to cure.
