[0:00]Uh, it's just because, uh, still I remember when I was in my 12th class or in 11th class in school days, I used to afraid from English. It was a kind of fear, if somebody asked me something in English, I used to stuck. What would I answer now? Even going to an English medium school was very difficult for me. Hello, good afternoon, Rupali, how are you? Good afternoon, ma'am. Yes, I'm doing well. And what about you? I'm also doing well. Thank you so much for asking. So tell me, how's your day been going so far? Yes, my day is going so well, as, uh, it's Navratri today, which is the first day. And also being celebrated as a New Year of Hindu festival, right? So it's been going so good. And also I get your, uh, confirmation for the session in the morning. So yes, it is really well today. When did you check? And what about you, ma'am? How's it going? Um, oh, I checked it at around 8, 8:00 AM. Okay. Yeah. In the morning itself when I woke up and at that time just after half an hour, I checked the email. And I thought to book a session today because it's been so long that I'm not booking any session from mail. So I thought to do it today. Yeah. And you grabbed. Yeah, the opportunity immediately. Yes, like usually we don't see the mails and it was written with your name, Rajni, so that, uh, it was played in my mind. Uh, and then just I accepted. Okay. Otherwise, usually it is not in our routine to see the mails or check it on. Hmm. So maybe you got the notification. Yeah, I got the notification. There are so many mails, but, uh, in between I saw your name written there, so I I was very excited, like, okay, uh, finally I received it because it's been long. I have, uh, sent you the request many, uh, two to three times, I think. Before a couple of months ago, also, I just sent you a message or a, uh, a mail, and then finally I got this opportunity. And so thank you so much, ma'am. Thank you so much for joining. It's my pleasure to have you here today. And I'm really excited to know about yourself. Uh, who Rupali is and what she does, and how she enjoys her free time, everything. Okay. Yeah, you, uh, you would be really excited to know about me, but I know you very well, as I usually listen your videos and your voice. So yes, it's kind of friendly for me, but yeah, I'll be a stranger for you, definitely. Yeah. So, uh, so yes, uh, I'm a student right now, and I'm preparing for examinations like SSCs or in. And I also have done, uh, my stenography. I have learned stenography, and related exams I prepare for. Apart from this, I have graduated from Delhi University, which is Hansraj College. And yes, this is all about me right till now. And yes, I really love to speak English and learn English. I don't get the environment, but yet, still I just find the ways how can I learn, how can I progress, and how can I, uh, improve myself. So I'm just doing this all. Hmm. That's amazing to hear. And, uh, how do you spend your free time? Anything special or fascinating that you do? Okay, so if I talk about my free time, usually I don't get it. But still, uh, we have a boutique at our home. Like we stitches clothes and all, so I just keep designing something different, something new, and keep exploring in this field also. And apart from this, yeah, listening music, going for a walk, or with the friends sometimes, it's usually to just get your mind free from the things or studies, I do this. Yeah, right. Okay. Amazing to hear. And you are from DU. When did you, um, do your graduation from DU? I, I pursued in 2021. And yeah, pandemic took it away. Whole my graduation that pandemic is took it away. Right. And as you mentioned that you don't get the environment, you don't have people around you who speak English often. Uh, and you somehow try practicing and maintaining consistency, but so far I realize that you are very already an eloquent speaker of the language. Uh, how do you master? Can you just elaborate a bit? Uh, thank you so much, like you're just giving me a very nice compliment that yes, I am fluent. A bit of humbleness I am getting right now. I don't know why, just because of or That I can feel in your, in your voice, it's, it's because of the nervousness, maybe. Yeah, correct. I was not nervous, but I don't know why I'm getting right now. It's like it's in human nature. We don't want, but still it happens with us. Hmm. Uh, it's just because, uh, still I remember when I was in my 12th class or in 11th class in school days, I used to afraid from English. It was a kind of fear, if somebody asked me something in English, I used to stuck. What would I answer now? Even going to an English medium school was very difficult for me. Like I was not from very, um, uh, high, very, like nice schools or, uh, convent schools. I am from a simple government school. So there was, I there I was get, uh, uh, got the admission in English medium school, and I cried a lot. Like, I don't want to get the admission in English medium. But by default, I got it. So then later on in 11th or 12th also, I realized the same, uh, problem I was having.
[6:09]Uh, I had, sorry. Just not, uh, getting the meaning of the things, making sentences, yeah, just because don't have any background of English or environment. But then Yes, I joined somewhere a classes like free classes to learn English or something. There I just started speaking, and then later on I started reading books, reading books, different books, and, uh, listening podcasts. Audios of English and speaking again and again, repeating the words and sentences. This is the way, like, how I learn English. And also, yes, I mentioned that I was I'm preparing for government exam, so there we have a subject of English that we have to master. And especially in English stenography, which is short-hand language. So it also requires a lot of grammatical knowledge of English. So I started reading books by myself, grammar by my own self. I have never joined any institutes or classes. It's just online everything. So this is how I, I'm learning right now. Still I'm learning and trying to improve more and more and getting better. Okay, so you joined classes for spoken English earlier.
[7:29]I, uh, joined, uh, like there are many, um, NGOs who starts, who organizes the free sessions for students who are, who don't understand English at all. So just it's a free classes institute, uh, couple of months you have to go, you have to practice, you have to speak, and that kind of things. So I did, I just joined that and there I started speaking, like, which is the important thing. We don't start ever. So when I started there speaking, a kind of fumbling, a kind of nervousness, I just, uh, started overcoming from that. And then, uh, by myself I start, uh, reading the grammar, grammatical rules again and again, listening and all. This is all about my learning skills. Hmm. Got, got it. And I'm really impressed the way you have, uh, leveraged all the free resources. We all have now adequate resources, even ample amount of resources we have when it comes to improving any skill and particularly any language. Uh, so, yes, ma'am, that's a great thing that you leveraged all the opportunities that came your way. And how long it took you for, uh, you know, getting this level where you are speaking error-free English and your pace is also nice. It's like moderate. Anyone can understand you easily. It's not like you're speaking too fast or too slow. Your pace is moderate. You have the voice modulation. You're not making any grammar mistake. So how long it took you for you, for you to, you know, achieve this level? Uh, specifically, ma'am, I cannot mention, like how long it took me because it was always in my mind, like I want to improve English. I want to speak in English because like people say, it's just a language. I know Hindi is also a language and English is also a language. But when you know English very well, so it gives you a kind of confidence when you're in, uh, in the classroom, in the gatherings or anywhere. So it is a kind of confidence that you get while speaking, while conversation, or while meeting someone. So it's always like, I can say it's been three to four, four to five years when I'm continually practicing. Like, two to three years I can say when I am focusing more and more. I always like in my routine, in a day, I have to listen a video or a podcast. I have to repeat sentences. I have to read a lot. These things I'm doing. Absolutely. I agree, totally agree with you that it takes two to three years that you are now more focused and, like, you are more attentive and you are paying attention to the active learning. Maybe earlier it was kind of a passive learning. But yes, even after, you know, uh, putting effort consciously, doing all the practices deliberately, and you are putting, like, doing the active learning, then also it takes around two to three years. Absolutely. And I'm also the example of that. And, uh, it is just, uh, I wanted to clarify this thing because the way you are speaking, I got it. Like, for achieving this level, you must have devoted two to three years or four years, maybe because I myself have done. And I know many people personally that, uh, how they have achieved the fluency and they started speaking, you know, sophisticated language. So it takes that much time and it's just I asked you because I want to clarify to other people who are watching the video that you have to be consistent. That's it for two to three years. Consistency, it takes time. Right. Yes, ma'am. Consistency is really important. Hmm. To achieve anything, like any skill if you want to pursue that we have to be very consistent. Absolutely. It is important. Right. Do you have any question for me? Oh, no, I don't have any question, but I was very excited to join the session to talk because, yes, this is also a thing that I like speaking English or the conversation. But when I don't get anybody, so, uh, what do I do? I just usually, um, use Bluetooth or start a video, any video, and then myself I started speaking after the videos or whatever sentences I'm listening. I just start to myself or sometimes I talk with myself in English so that, uh, I can have the habit of speaking English. It's quite difficult I do it to maintain consistency on your own. Like, I know many people who say that, um, yes, they know all the practices. They know all the things, the vocabulary, they have to read, they have to listen to, right? But, um, they're not able to maintain the consistency. They, on their own, they would do for 5 to 10 days only, and then they would quit. And I also got some students who joined earlier my sessions. They continued with me for two months, then they took a break for one month, and they realized that they are speaking the same English, like very basic English. And they're making a lot of mistakes. Uh, they took break because they wanted to pursue on their own, they wanted to learn on their own at home, but they were not able to maintain the consistency. Then they came back, uh, to me that, ma'am, we are not able to maintain consistency. Once you are with us, once you are asking us, forcing us to attend the session, complete the homework, read this, that, when you when you do that, we feel, uh, like we are already consistent. We are able to maintain. So without you, it's not possible. A few of my students are like that. So that is why they, you know, they are just not doing extra things. But they are just maintaining a consistency in speaking. So they just talk to me on a regular basis. So how are you able to maintain? And what motivates you to continue with the same, you know, uh, spirit? So, it is all about like, am I audible? Yes.
[13:36]Okay. So it is just because when you get so much, uh, opportunity, or we can say, um, uh, what do we say? Like you facilities, so many facilities to learn, but still not able to, to pay the money for those to get the classes and everything. So you know, but you have the spirit that you want to learn. You want to improve. And if you feel in yourself that, yes, whatever I did in past two years or three years, I have improved a lot. I can see that. I can feel that. So it is the motivation that I have. And I know if I just continue this thing, I'll I'll be definitely be a fluent one, or I'll in, uh, like, uh, nourish my own vocabulary or, uh, the way of speaking I am, uh, speaking right now, but later on. I know I will definitely pursue the level that I want. I'm just, uh, improving my own self.
[14:38]So I don't take it as a, like I need any motivation or something. It is something that makes me happier, that is interesting, and that is that makes me feel good. Hmm. So this is the only motivation for me and I'm doing it. Yeah, I can totally get it because I meet often that kind of people also who are motivated and who love the language, and who enjoy the journey of learning it. Recently, I met a girl Indu. I think you watched the video with Indu. Okay. She's so passionate. She, the way she spoke, and she's also learning on her own at home, by repeating the words, repeating the sentences, watching videos, reading book, all the things she does. She has even kids also. But, uh, the reason behind maintaining consistency and feeling motivated all the time is that these people just love the language. They just enjoy the process. They don't feel that, oh, it's monotonous, it's boring. And for some people, Yes, ma'am, even, uh, they are connected to the tutors, they are getting resources. Even the words are prepared for them. idioms are prepared for them. They just have to open and read. It, still they feel that it's monotonous. Learning a language can be monotonous if you don't like and love that language, particular. It can be anything. Like for example, if I talk about myself, um, I don't like that, uh, the Korean language, which I did my graduation in. I don't like that much. So if somebody asked me to learn now Korean, would be really monotonous for me because I don't enjoy learning Korean. I just did it out of curiosity and out of the, you know, urge to explore the different, uh, fields. That's what I did. But I didn't enjoy the way I enjoy English now. And I met that people who enjoy learning this. They, uh, are able to maintain the consistency, great. So without talking to people, without practicing like this, you have achieved it. Like, you have achieved this fluency. Uh, yes, ma'am, because most of the time I spend it at home. B- as I am preparing, so I just most of the time I'm busy in my studies. And as I am taking classes also, or all the stuff, whatever is required for my studies, I'm just using in online. I don't go to the classes. Or if even I go outside for the, for my, uh, subjective classes, even then there I don't think that I'll get someone who can talk to me in English all the time. Right. It will be, it will be kind of a sentence or a phrase, like we usually talk. Hmm. But not, uh, an environment that I can, uh, speaking with someone for one hour or one, two hours, so it is not a kind of thing. Yes, one more thing that helped me out is I also teach students. So, and the tuition classes kind of thing. So there, as I have learned grammar, and it is a kind of thing which is which feels very difficult for the students, for some people. So I try myself to, uh, teach them in a way that they will feel, yes, it's, uh, easier. It is easy. So this is also helping me learn the rules. Now I got you of grammar. I thought, Yeah, what's the, what's the magic behind it that you achieved it without practicing with people. And I get it now because when it comes to teaching, in order to teach, the trainer, the tutor has to prepare a lot. Like at home, they have to read a lot. They have to practice a lot. They have to make sentences a lot. And, uh, this has helped me also, personally. That once I started teaching, I started putting more effort into it. And that, uh, directly more effect, yes, ma'am, helped me, uh, in polishing my English and my way of speaking. So, and now I got it. Otherwise, I was thinking that how did you achieve without even practicing. Okay. So have you connected to any other YouTuber too? No, I haven't connected to any YouTuber. And if I talk about the, uh, my, uh, teaching tuitions, so I usually teach, uh, up to four to five. Okay. Classes. Hmm. Like the grade one to one and two I'm teaching right now, and up to fifth I have taught. But there was a student who was in 11th class, and she wanted to learn English grammar only. And I taught her around two to three months. That was the only part of English I taught someone. Otherwise, there are so many institutes. People who don't walk, come to me to learn, learn English. They'll definitely go to the institutes, there they can learn or they can get the environment, they can get the notes and everything. But to be honest, uh, when we get so many, uh, what to say, uh, like, way to learn, so it mind is automatically start ignoring it. If I have so many notes, so I, it's automatically I have the thought that, okay, I have it, uh, with me. I'll read it tomorrow. I'll read it in the morning. I'll read it later on. So it's the thing that we do usually. But if I say the learning English or speaking by my own self to be honest, ma'am, whenever I'm doing my, uh, chores works at home, uh, maybe it can be cutting the vegetables, stitching or anything. Whatever I'm doing, I just put the Bluetooth in my ears and, uh, like play any of the videos, which is in English, or I just start listening or speaking again and again, repeating it again and again. This is how I do every day. I don't know, I like it, so that I do it. Yeah, I get it. And yes, uh, when we learn with others and the PDFs and the resources which are provided by others, we hardly open them. We hardly go through because we are not able to, Yeah, relate much with that. At times it's like beyond our level. At times it's like we are not getting, uh, exactly, and happens. Uh, and in my case also, I am learning on my own. Like, I do study in the morning and whenever I get time, I do the reading. So these days, I am making, uh, my personalized PDFs, so I can just open my PDFs. I would know that these are the things and I am making them in a way that I want, like, uh, the way I want to design them, the way I want to learn the things. And the words I am learning, so simultaneously, I am making my own PDFs, so I can just have the printed have those PDFs printed later. And I would like to just revise them multiple times. So I think when you learn on your own. Understood. You are aware of all the things that you are doing, and then you are lacking in and then you have to pay attention to them more. Okay, so Right. Right, then you can plan your days and your practices accordingly. And you can make notes of, uh, all the thing accordingly, as per your level, as per your understanding. So they work better. And that I also resonate with. I am also doing the same. Absolutely, ma'am, and it is also because we never get dependent on other people. If I have a tutor or anyone to talk with, so I will, I always have this thing in my mind, like I have this person. If I do anything wrong, he will or she will correct me. So this is the kind of dependency we have. But if there is, uh, no way to learn and you have your own responsibility, so you need to correct it. You need to re-correct it, you need to revise, you have to do everything. So this is also, and when you correct your mistakes, so you remember it longer. Okay, I did this last time. If I'll not repeat it again, this also happens. But, you know, expecting this and this like, like the tutor will, uh, correct me, that is also fine. But expecting that the tutor will make me fluent is not right. You won't be fluent. Exactly, until you open your mouth and practice, and you follow all the Correct suggestions, all the, you know, uh, guidance that is given in the session. They don't just, they listen to, uh, the tutor at the time when the tutor is giving them the advice. Okay, you have to do this. Okay, you have to underline all the prepositions and articles while reading. You have to do the shadowing practice. You have to do the, you know, reading of sentences and all this. All the things they would know and say, yes, okay, I'll follow that. I'll do that. Later they forget and they still expect that the tutor would make me fluent. You have to practice. You have to open your mouth and that's the day they fell. Expecting that the tutor would correct me is also fine because, yes, the tutor would listen to you and correct you. But expecting that the tutor would make me fluent is not reasonable. I don't think so that's very pragmatic thing to do. I can just help you. I can just guide you and can show you the path and can tell you the methods that can help you. You have to test and try and see what works well for you and then you can proceed with that. So this is your task and I always tell my to my students in my sessions also, like my task is 20%. And I'll do it with 100% accuracy, I would try. And your task is 80% that you have to do with 1,000%. So if you are lacking there, if you are not even putting your 100%, it's not possible to achieve the fluency, right? Yes, ma'am, correct. Like, uh, my point is not that to we don't have to dependent. But yes, if, uh, the somebody have joined any classes, that is much better because you have someone who can correct you, who can guide you. But follow is also important. Like, you are following the your teacher, your guide. It's not like this, whatever she or he said, you listen and the next day you forget. If again and again, he or she is telling you, but you're not listening, you're not improving. And then you start making that, uh, this institute is not good. That institute is not good. This is the thing. I have spent this much time, but got nothing. So this is also important. It's good thing if you have someone who can guide you, who can make things easier for you, so you should also do best by yourself also. That effort, similar effort you have to put. You are the one who can help you the more, the most, I feel. Correct, ma'am. Okay. So we have come to the end of the session. Uh, anything that you would like to add before we wind up? Uh, I will say one thing, like I am learning by my own self. It's been so far, but one thing that I lack is vocabulary. Whenever time comes, uh, it happens so many times that I know the words that I can use while speaking or in a conversation that can make my conversation much better. But at the time when I have to speak, I it doesn't come in my mind just because I'm not using them regularly or repeating them regularly. So this is one thing, uh, I feel it is a lack of practicing by own self because you cannot. Yeah. And one more thing I can, I can say one more thing here is that, uh, maybe, uh, you are able to use when you are speaking to yourself and you are practicing at home because, um, but still not able to use while speaking to the other person because when you talk to the other person there is another factor is also added, which is fear or hesitation, which is natural, inevitable. It, Yeah, like everybody feels that. So because of the hesitation also, you forget these words and you don't get at the right moment. Uh, right after the session you would, you would not have that hesitation, you would not have that, you know, the feeling that you have right now. So you would get all the words. You would be able to use if you speak on any topic, okay. So that is why it is also a necessary to connect to people and practice. Yes, ma'am. And also it will definitely happen. It is happened, like it happens and it will happen right now. It is happening. After this session, I will feel, I would have said this word. I would have said these things. It happens. Yes. I get it. But still, yes, I am learning. You did a great job in today's session. I feel that you performed really well. I'm really impressed the way you spoke in today's session. Keep up the great work. Thank you so much, ma'am, and you will definitely achieve the fluency and the level that you want to achieve. There is no doubt. Because the person who is self-motivated and have the clarity can achieve anything and can do wonders. Thank you so much, ma'am, for your appreciation. And yes, I'll I hope just again I'll meet in the session with you. Whenever you are free and Right. Yeah, uh, one more thing, I, uh, one more thing I would say that, uh, it is also a part that a level up like I get in your session, I get an opportunity to talk to you. So a kind of hesitation is gone now. So whenever the next session we have with you, so definitely we'll see more improvement in myself. Absolutely. You have just encountered your fear and hesitation, and this is how gradually you will be able to overcome it entirely. Yeah, so thank you so much and have a great day ahead. It was lovely talking to you. Bye, take care. Thank you, ma'am. Bye bye. Thank you so much. Okay, ma'am. Yeah, you're welcome.
