[0:00]Hello, I'm Dr. Bruce Miller. I'm professor of neurology and director of the memory and aging Center at the University of California, San Francisco. And it's a great pleasure to be here with you today. I'm also co-director of the UCSF Weill Institute for Neuroscience, and I'm very excited about the progress that we're making in the neurosciences. I'm especially excited about this series on brain health and brain fitness because it really gets at the core of what we do at the memory and aging Center. And that is to bring out the best in the brain across the entire lifespan. What does brain health mean to me? It means bringing your optimal self to your daily life, making sure that your brain is functioning at its highest level so that you can interact maximally with the environment and with people, and that you can be creative and productive and happy. So that to me is brain health and brain fitness. The memory and aging Center has been involved in brain health and brain fitness from its very inception. We started off by studying patients who had neurodegenerative diseases, who were losing brain health and brain fitness. And by studying these patients, we learned a lot about how the brain is organized, what brain regions are responsible for different kinds of behaviors. We also learned a lot about what makes people resilient to these diseases. But more recently, we've gotten very interested in trying to keep the brain healthy across the entire lifespan, and especially as we age. And so our center is really devoted to brain health and brain fitness across the lifespan. We are very excited about the future of brain health and brain fitness. We understand so much now about the brain, about how it develops, about how it functions, and about what makes it healthy and what makes it susceptible to disease. And so we're able to translate this into strategies that we can use to keep our brains healthy and to keep us functioning at our highest level. I think that we're going to see a revolution in brain health and brain fitness in the next few years. And I'm very excited about being part of that.
