[0:00]There's five steps to setting up your first ad with Google Ads. And the first step is to do keyword research. And this is where we figure out what people are searching for in Google to find your product or service. And people go to Google to search for different things. Oftentimes when they have a problem, they go to Google to search for a solution. And what makes Google Ads so amazing is that you only pay money when people click on your ad. And this is what's called PPC or Pay Per Click advertising. The second step is to set up a campaign. And this is where we tell Google what location we want to target with our ad, how long we want our ad to run for and what our max budget is. And in this video, I'm going to show you a complete screen recorded walk through on how to set up your first Google ad, as well as some ways to save money when using Google Ads. Because if you're not careful, Google will try to trick you into spending more money than you need to. The third step is to set up an ad group, and this is where we tell Google exactly what searches we want our ad to show up for. And the last step to getting your ad up and ready is to actually design what the ad is going to look like. And I'm going to show you how to design your ad so people will actually want to click on it, and this will cut your marketing cost in half. At the very end of this video, I'm going to show you some advanced features that you can use to save even more money. For example, how you can get $100 in free Google Ads credit or how you can use Google Ads to get free flights around the world. And on top of all that, as a bonus for staying and watching this entire video, I'm going to give you a bunch of free goodies, like a free Google Ads checklist and a bunch more stuff that I'll talk about at the end of this video. So by the end of this tutorial, you're going to go from a complete beginner at Google Ads to an expert. And I personally know how powerful Google Ads are, because I've personally spent over $100,000 of my own money on Google Ads. And I was able to build a $4 million e-commerce business primarily using Google Ads. So let's get started on your first Google ad. And make sure to smash the like button, because if this video gets a lot of likes, I'll start doing more Google Ads content just like this. The first thing you need to do is make sure that you have a Gmail or a Google account. But once you have that, you can go to ads.google.com and click start now. Now, most people make the mistake of following this simple guide right here to set up their first Google ad. The problem with this is, is if you follow this simple guide, Google is going to trick you into spending more money than you need to spend. So what I recommend doing instead is clicking down here to switch to Expert mode. And by the time you're finished with this tutorial, you will be an expert. So this is a way to save you a lot of money. Now, the first thing you're going to do is set up your goal. And I'll talk about what all these different goals are later in this video, but for now, we're just going to click on website traffic, because most people watching this video, that's going to be the best option for them. Also, there's a lot of different types of campaigns you can set up. Again, we're just going to go with search, and this is the most common type of Google Ads people set up, and it's probably one of the most powerful ones. The next step is to enter your business website here. And it's going to ask you if you want to create a conversion action. Don't worry about that, you don't need that. That's a more advanced feature that we can talk about later. We're going to go to continue. Now, before we get started, setting up our campaign, we're going to want to do keyword research. And this is where we figure out what people are searching for in Google to find our product or service. And just in case you don't know, the term keyword means whatever people are searching for in Google. So what you're going to want to do is think about what are people searching for in Google to find your product or service. And I created this spreadsheet here to help you do just that. So I wrote down a few different things that people might search for in Google to find my product. Now, my product is a Macadamia, coconut, cashew blended nut butter. It's perfect for keto, it's a healthy fat snack. So the first idea I came up with was healthy fat. People might search for that in Google. But that is just way too broad. So the next thing I thought about is, well, maybe keto snack. People on the keto diet might want snacks, they might want to buy my product. Still way too broad. So getting even a little bit more specific, the idea of keto nut butter. If someone is searching for keto nut butter on Google, they want to buy my product. So, we're going to take this here, and we're going to put that as the campaign name. Now, you can put the campaign name whatever you want. This is more just for you and organizational purposes. Now, the thing is, to do proper keyword research, you're going to want to use a tool that Google gives you for free called the Google Keyword Planner. The problem is, Google doesn't give you this tool for free until you go through and set up your first campaign. So this first ad we're setting up with Google Ads is just going to be a temporary ad. We're going to use this to get access to the more advanced features. But throughout this process, I'm going to explain to you how Google Ads works. So we've put down the campaign name. The next thing you want to do is unclick include Google search partners and unclick include Google Display Network. This is another way that Google is trying to make more money from you. You don't want to include Google search partners because these are other websites other than Google where your ad might show up. And generally speaking, they're not as profitable if you show ads on those other search networks. As well as, you don't want to show on the Google Display Network. The Google Display Network would show your ad on random websites. We don't want our ad to show up on random websites. We want our ad to show up on Google as soon as someone is searching for the solution to the problem that we solve. Once you've done that, you can click down here to show more settings. And this is optional, but if you want to, you can always set an end date. And the benefit of setting an end date is then just in case you forget about your ad, it doesn't keep running and it doesn't keep costing you money. This is again, completely optional. Eventually, once you start having profitable Google Ads, you might not want to have an end date. You might want them to run for as long as possible. There's some other more advanced features here that we can talk about later as well. Next up, we're going to want to select what location we want to target. Now, you can select all countries, which I don't recommend. You can select United States and Canada or just the United States. But another thing that you can do is if you offer a service that's only in a small area, you can click enter another location. And you can enter zip codes, you can enter states. And this is also helpful that even if you have a product that you sell all throughout the United States, and you know, for instance, that it just sells better in California, you can just target California. For this example, I'm going to just click on United States. Now what I recommend doing is going to location options and clicking on this presence. Because if you don't do this, this is another trick that Google tries to do to get more money from you. If you don't do this, it'll include people that are show interest in the United States. I don't want my ad to be shown to people that show interest in the United States. I only want my ad to be shown to people that actually have a physical presence in the United States. After that, we're going to scroll down, and if you want to show your ad to people that speak other languages other than English, this is your place to be able to put that in. For the purposes of this tutorial, I'm just going to stick with English, because it's going to be an English ad going to an English-based website. So we don't want to add any other languages. You can also add an audience here. Again, this is a more advanced feature I'll talk about later. I often times do not add an audience, but it is something that you can do to save a little bit of money and really niche down your targeting. Well, then set a budget. Now, people ask me all the time, what do I recommend for the budget? And I say, start off with at least $5 a day. But here's the truth, the higher your budget is, the faster you're going to get data, you're going to get results from your ads, and the faster you're going to be able to start making money with Google Ads. We're also going to go down here and set a maximum cost per click bid limit. We want to tell Google, you know what, we don't want to spend more than $1 for every time someone clicks on our ad. Now, how much you set the maximum CPC to is up to you. And the way that Google Ads works is it's a bidding system. And whoever bids the highest amount gets to the top of the search result. Now I'll show you later in this video how you can figure out exactly how much you should be bidding for your ad so that you'll get to the top of the search results. There's also some more advanced settings that we can talk about later here, and there's what's called ad extensions. Now, ad extensions helps you get up to 15% higher clickthrough rates. And there's different types of ad extensions that we'll talk about later in this video. For example, one of them, call out extension, allows it so that if people see your ad on a mobile phone, they're able to call you with just a click of a button. There's a bunch of other ad extensions we can talk about later. But for now, we're going to go ahead and click Save and Continue. Now, we're going to set up our ad group. And this is where we tell Google exactly what keywords we want our ad to show up for. Now, again, you can name your ad group whatever you want. For the purposes of this video, I'm going to call it keto nut butter, because that is going to be the main keyword that I'm targeting. Now, Google gives you a list of keywords it thinks you should target. And I think this is quite hilarious. This is another way that Google is trying to trick you into spending more money than you need to, because a lot of these keywords that it provides for you aren't relevant. For instance, I don't sell an almond butter. And it says I should target the word organic almond butter. So what we're going to do is we're going to go ahead and delete these. And we're going to put the keyword that we found, and that is keto nut butter. And the reason I picked this is because if someone in Google is searching for keto nut butter, I know that when they find my product, they're going to want to buy it. Now, the problem is, if you just put in keto nut butter like this, what's going to happen is your ad will show up anytime someone searches for the word keto, nut, and butter, even if they have other different words in their search. For example, someone might search for, I hate keto nut butter. And my ad will still show up, which means I'm potentially wasting a lot of money. Someone might also search for, I hate keto, I never want to eat nut butter. And my ad will still show up. And that's because we've chosen to use broad match. Now, one way to get around this is you can do what's called phrase match. And if you put little quotes around keto nut butter, Google will only show your ad if the phrase keto nut butter shows up. Which means that if someone types a word in between keto and nut butter and searches for it on Google, the ad won't show up. However, if people type words before or after the phrase keto nut butter, your ad will still show up. An example of this would be, I hate keto nut butter. This ad would still show up. So the way to get around that is called exact match. Put square brackets and you put your word in there. Now, your ad will only show up when people type in exactly keto nut butter, no more, no less, and this is called exact match. Now Google will show you over on the right hand side, estimates for how often your ad's going to be clicked. Now, we're getting zero clicks per day. And the reason for that is, it says the average cost per click is actually $2.11. I only said that I'm willing to pay $1 per click. So it's basically telling me, sorry, you're not going to get any traffic. Now, usually I'd go back and I would fix that. But for the purposes of this video, let's just keep going and we can fix that later. So we'll click on Save and Continue. Now, it's time for us to set up our ad with Google Ads. And Google shows you a preview of what the ad's going to look like. And this is what the ad's going to look like on mobile, and this is what the ad would look like on desktop search. So, let's go back. And the first thing we're going to do is put in what is the final URL. When someone clicks on your ad from Google, where do you want to take them? Now, the mistake that most people make is most people take them to the homepage of their website. And the problem with that is, there's not really a lot for people to do. You want to take them to the deepest product page you can. You want to take them wherever they're one click away from buying your product or service or joining your email list or whatever action you want them to take. So what I'm going to do here is I'm actually going to go to my product page. And you see, right here, if I take someone from my ad to this page, they can buy right away. So I'm going to take this, and I'm going to go over here, and I'm going to put this as the final URL. Now we're going to set up the headlines. And the headline is probably the most important part of your ad. And Google automatically recommends what it thinks the headline should be. Almost never should you use the suggested headline from Google. Again, this is a way that Google tries to make it easy for people to set up their ad with Google Ads. But if you don't change your headline, often times, it's going to lead to you wasting a lot of money. So we're going to change this headline to something that when someone searches for keto nut butter, they're going to see this headline and they're going to want to click on this ad. So what I recommend doing for one is often times include whatever the keyword you're targeting in the ad. So I put keto nut butter in here, because if someone's searching for keto nut butter, I want them to see this ad and be like, yes, please, I want the number one best keto nut butter ever. Another tip is don't just use letters. Try to throw in some numbers and some other symbols. Because if there's a bunch of ads and a bunch of text on the screen, numbers and symbols are going to stand out. We're also going to want to talk about the benefits of your product and and what makes your product amazing. So I put number one best keto nut butter ever because I think that if someone is searching for keto nut butter, they probably want the best keto nut butter. The key is to really focus on the benefits of your product or service. So my product is high quality fat for fuel. Now to be completely honest, I didn't spend that long thinking about these different headlines. This is just a sample. I'm sure if we sat down and spent more time thinking about these headlines, we could do much better. Another tip, though, is if you offer free shipping, if you're selling a product, put that in there. If on the other hand, you offer a service and you offer some kind of a free session, or whatever makes you special, if you can use the word free in your ad, I highly recommend doing it. I also put made in the USA, because that really stands out to people, and because USA is in all caps, it's going to really pop on the page. Now you're going to go down to display path. And here, what I recommend doing is putting whatever your keyword is here. Because then people are going to see keto nut butter up here. They're also going to see keto nut butter up here. And they're going to know that when they click on your ad, they're going to get exactly what they were searching for. Now, another thing that people often skip is this description. And look it right here. It takes up a little bit of text. But what we're going to do is try to take up all 90 characters of this description, and try to do something a little bit better than the automatic description that Google gave us. Now, another tip when writing your ad is always try to take up all 30 characters for the headlines, and all 90 characters for the description. So you can see, this ad now takes up a little bit more space. And I also included in there some other benefits of my product. It's keto, it's paleo, it's vegan, it's whole 30, it's 100% real. Again, you see, that 100% really pops. If you're just scrolling quickly on your phone, and you see 100% real, 100% delicious, you're like, what is that product? So, what we're going to do now is create a second ad for that ad group. And I always recommend when you're setting up Google Ads to create two ads for every ad group. And the reason for this is, is Google is going to test which ad does better. It'll test one ad one day, and then the other ad the next day, and it'll go back and forth, and it'll eventually tell you, hey, 10% of the time people who see this ad, they click on it, versus 5% of the time, they see this ad, they click on it. And this is really important. If you can have an ad that outperforms your competitors, you're going to save a lot of money. I'll explain how this works later. But let's click on Done and Create Next Ad. And I recommend for your second ad, using the same final URL, but change up the headlines. We're trying to test out what works better, which of the different headline options will work better. And you can see, for the first one I put number one best keto nut butter. For this one, I put 100% natural keto nut butter. And we're going to see what are people more likely to click on. And after you've added your descriptions, we're going to go ahead and click Save and Continue. But one thing I recommend before you go any further is make sure to add a promotional code here. And this will give you a free $100 in Google Ads credit. And the way to find this is just go on Google and search for Google Ads promotional code. If I can find a promotional code that you can use, I'll put it in the description down below. But another trick you can use to get free flights all around the world is to sign up for a points or miles credit card, and use that to pay for Google Ads. In fact, some different credit cards out there have huge bonuses if you use it for Google Ads. So I highly recommend if you're going to be spending money on Google Ads anyways, why not get some free flights? And in a lot of times, these credit cards will have a 50,000 mile bonus just for signing up, which is enough for a round trip ticket to Europe or wherever you want to fly. I'll also include links to sign up pages where you can get some extra bonus miles by signing up using the links down below. And once you're done with that, we're going to go ahead and click Submit.

[17:24]It's important to remember that Google is a $1 trillion company, and 99% of the money that they make comes from advertising. And if you're wondering how they make so much money from advertising, it's because it works. On average, for every dollar that a business spends, they make $8 back in profit.

[17:49]And the reason that Google is more powerful than other forms of marketing is it allows you to get in front of your customer exactly when they're searching for the problem that you solve. Now we're going to go through and do this process again, but I'm going to show you how to actually do it properly. Now that we've unlocked some of the different tools that Google offers us. Before we do that, I highly recommend pausing the initial campaign that you made, because chances are you made that campaign kind of in the dark, and that campaign probably won't be profitable. So what I recommend doing to start is going up and clicking on the tools and settings and clicking on the Keyword Planner. Now before I get into that, if you do have any questions, leave it in the comments down below. I go through and I try to answer every single question. Now it's time for us to do real proper keyword research. And at this point, you can either discover new keywords or get search volume and forecasts for different keywords. For the purposes of this video, we're going to discover new keywords. We're going to figure out what keywords do we want to target in Google to show our ad for. So let's click on Discover New Keywords. And we have to at first type in a keyword that we think is relevant. Now, remember, let's use the example of keto nut butter. And we're going to click Get Results. And at this point, Google's going to give you what keywords it thinks are relevant to the initial keyword that you gave to it. And we're going to look through these and try to find a keyword that actually represents your product or service.
