[10:58]What window was she in? This second story window right here. Okay, so it was open and she was just? Yeah, she uh, she was able to get close enough to the window and push the glass out and uh... She was hollering for help and this lady, I think that's getting out of this Kia. Yeah, actually the little girl heard her hollering. She's like, "Granny, that lady's yelling for help, she got a chain around her neck." She's actually the one that called 9-1-1. I guess they live there? Yeah, they live right there too. But I got her name and phone number. Okay. After 2 days of round the clock covert surveillance, detectives radio to patrol officers that the suspect has returned to the house. That's when patrol officers pull up to the location and find a red truck with 2 men inside, with one of them matching the description of the suspect. Get out of the car. What's your location? All right, that's fine, man. Just hang out, all right? Okay. Sit on the- Lean back. Okay. Was it me that you talked to today, sir? Yeah. I'm gonna say no, 'cause I don't- He gave me his card and I go look for him and talk to him about telling him to turn himself in. And he- And he planned- promised to go Monday to turn himself in. So what- what is all this harassment for? It's not harassment. It's called doing our job. You're being detained right now and as soon as this is all figured out, if you're not in any kind of trouble, the handcuffs will be taken off. You're not being harassed. Okay, but that's not nice. I don't like it. Sit down on the hood of the car right here. The lady that- Okay, hold on, just- She needs to talk to one of you. All right, who is that? Jonna. Who's Jonna? The girl that was held hostage. Hey Jonna, how are you? Nah, she's not on speaker, baby, so you gotta hold it up to your ear. Jonna? Can you describe the suspect for me real quick? All right, is he Hispanic? Yeah, that's him. That's him. I know him. I've seen him. All right. We'll give you a call here shortly, Jonna. All right, boss. What's your last name? Moises May. Your first name is Moises? M-O-E-S-E-S? So it's just you and your girlfriend that live there? Yes. No, what she did, the drama thing. Drama thing? What do you mean? Like for the chaining thing, but that was not what really happened. Just because she like did [inaudible] for money? Oh, you're saying that you're saying that what she's telling police is drama? Yeah, it's drama, yeah. Yeah, it's drama, yeah. That's not for real what happened. Hey, we good with this dude? You're free to go. You're gonna have to train me up on that, brother. I put the cuffs on upside down. Ohh. We just started heading over here to see if we could find him and y'all got him. Wow. That's the- That's the window that she broke out. I don't think it was just her neck. I mean, I think he had her like a chain around her neck and a chain down on the ground, like a- like a fighting dog almost. The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Moises May. After obtaining search warrant, officers cleared the house and confirmed there were no other human victims. Police noticed entire house was makeshift confinement area. There was a significant amount of work that was done to the entire house, including barricaded doors that were screwed in, boarded up and bolted windows. and a front door that used a double cylinder deadbolt, meaning it required a key from both sides, and it was later confirmed that Moises had the one and only key. The chain used on the victim was also attached to the floor with heavy duty hardware, rather than just wrapped around something. These details suggest that there was some planning involved to the incident, which is important in determining premeditation. After his arrest, Moises told police that the victim Jonna actually chained herself up because she couldn't stop cheating on him. Jonna told investigators that Moises threatened to kill her if she left him or went to police, and that he continuously threatened and assaulted her to keep control over her. An interview right after Jonna was rescued shows her immediate response to the situation. He made me strip naked and then he put the chain around my neck. And then he called his friend and said, I gotta go take this equipment back to Lowe's. When I come back, I'm gonna kill you. It's hard when you think you know somebody and you don't. I just want to see him get in jail. I want to- I want justice. I want- I want my daughter to be okay. Moises was initially charged with felony kidnapping, felony intimidating a participant in the legal process, felony first-degree wanton endangerment, assault, terroristic threatening and harassment with physical contact. He would later have extremely serious charges added, however, as Jonna went on to tell investigators that Moises forced and coerced her to engage in commercial sex acts with other men. She said he arranged five of these encounters in exchange for money. This new information combined with the high likelihood of premeditation due to the house being rigged up as a makeshift confinement area. Led to prosecutors additionally charging Moises with five counts of felony human trafficking. This case eventually went to a jury trial in Jefferson County, Kentucky. Which prosecutors said was the county's first ever human trafficking case to go to a jury trial. Theoretically, the maximum sentence Moises could be given based on all of his charges is 75 years in prison. However, after deliberation, the jury found Moises guilty on all charges and recommended the judge sentence him to 35 years in prison for his actions. The judge later sentenced Moises to 30 years in prison with the eligibility for parole after serving 20% of his sentence, which is 6 years. In past years, Kentucky law used to require a person convicted of a Class B felony to serve at least 85% of their imposed sentence before being eligible for parole. Meaning Moises' kidnapping charge, which is a Class B felony, would normally enact this 85% rule. However, this statute was recently revised in 2024. Now, a Class B felony must involve the death or serious physical injury to the victim. Because Jonna was found alive with no serious physical injury, it allowed Moises to be eligible for parole after serving just 20% of his imposed sentence. Moises will be 44 years old when he is eligible for parole in 2031.
