[0:00]This is the dark truth about Ratatouille. The beloved animated movie was actually inspired by a real French chef. That chef was Bernard Loiseau. Bernard ran a restaurant in France named La Cote d'Or, or The Gold Coast. They served modern French cuisine and earned three Michelin stars. The highest Michelin honor awarded for any restaurant. In fact, there are only 135 restaurants in the world with this Michelin rating today. Bernard was laser focused on maintaining his stars while running one of the most prestigious restaurants in the world. In the movie, the chef Gusteau sadly dies from a broken heart after a bad restaurant review from food critic Anton Ego. Gusteau returns as a ghost and follows Remy the rat and helps him pursue his culinary dream of becoming a world-class chef. The character Gusteau was based on real life Bernard. Bernard was so humiliated and depressed at the loss of one of his prized Michelin stars. Tragically, he took his own life.
