[0:00]So she was a very broken woman when she met Prince Charles and that was as we all know a terribly unhappy marriage. But she then became glamorous. She she suddenly discovered her fame because she was very beautiful and very charming. She says to Harry that you've got to dump all your friends. And none of those people at his shooting weekend were then invited to the dinner after the wedding. I mean that was the crunch. They were globally and they are globally known but because of the way they behaved in the last four, five years and as a price of betrayal, they are now their reputation and their status and their fortunes are crumbling. He on the other hand couldn't find an English woman who wanted to live with him. They all fled because of his depressions and paranoia and here is a woman Megan who was his safety net. and not living in the luxury she wanted and having to obey the royal commands. She stooped constantly that he should feel aggrieved and should feel unhappy. And I think that he agreed that Megan was not going to obey any. She had no intention of staying and that she was going to be a huge problem. And that was reported obviously to the queen and the rest and they realized that this was a marriage which was not going to last in Britain. He had the applause he needed. The point about Megan is she was looking for fame, she was looking for applause, she was looking for international recognition, which of course she failed to get because she had not not enough talent. that she hoped her father would not come to the wedding. This is months before the wedding actually took place. And we know the whole story about the father having the heart attack and at the last minute bailing out. loving towards the inflicted but he should never have done that he shouldn't betrayed his father. And I think as well, it is extraordinary that Jundu had to persuade him to go after five years. So she'd have to have a an escape route. She'd have to find a sort of a Silicon Valley or somehow aging billionaire that would want to take her on. I don't think she'd walk into the wilderness. I can't imagine any man finding happiness with Megan Markel. I mean I think it would be really difficult. She would never put herself above the monarchy, which of course was the downfall of Megan in Britain, that she wanted to be number one. She didn't want to be part of a team and they play the Diana car to suggest that when she is criticized, her fate will be the same as Diana's. Megan Markle calls her wedding to Prince Harry a fairy tale, a dream come true, a love story for the ages. Although the future Duchess of Sussex Megan Markle was initially welcomed into royal circles following the start of her relationship with Prince Harry. But investigative author Tom Bower tells a completely different story, and honestly, it's shocking. He says what really happened behind those palace doors was not romance, it was strategy. Well, I think the Megan Mark I know is on the good side, intelligent, resourceful, uh definitely um resilient under fire. but on the other hand, intensely selfish, only self-opinionated, unable to see anything other than through her own lens, as she would say, appalling treatment of her father and her friends, old friends. a very conflicted personality, but worst of all for her is that she couldn't find huge fame and fortune on her own accomplishments. Her problem is she has very limited talent. Stay with us, because truth number seven is going to stop you in your tracks. Tom Bower says Meghan's marriage to Harry was not some beautiful coincidence, it was calculated step-by-step. the edging Harry and Megan back into Britain to revalidate their royal status will only give them another boost to sell themselves either in Australia or Canada, wherever, to make money out of their royal titles. I think that'll be a disaster for the royal family. According to Bower, Meghan had been quietly working her way into wealthier and more powerful social circles for years. She was not stumbling into success. She was chasing it. And when Prince Harry entered the picture, Bower says the timing was not a coincidence either. Her marriage to her first husband, Trevor Engelson, was already falling apart, so she made a move. She divorced Trevor, set her sights on Harry, and according to Bower, never looked back. You're absolutely right. What I discovered was of course that she was hunting for a man in England from 2013 onwards when her marriage had crashed and she couldn't find anyone in Canada at the time. And she wanted, she wanted wealth and she wanted fame, and she targeted, there's no doubt she targeted Harry and found someone who was a childhood friend of his, uh who could introduce them. And then on the days before they met at their blind, uh blind meeting in a club in London, she researched Harry very carefully. This was the life she had always wanted, and she was not going to let anything get in the way. Here is where it gets really interesting. In interviews, Meghan always said she had no idea about the royal family before meeting Harry. She played it casual, almost innocent. psychological deep dive on Megan Markle in regard to this timeline. Do you think that she wanted to get married quickly, A, because of her biological clock which was ticking and B, because she wanted to close the deal, she wanted to bag this prince. Yes, I should have said before not that I think the biological clock was the actual factor. I just think that's what she was telling him, and of course he bought it, but I actually think she was love bombing him, completely love bombing him, playing along with all their plans at the time, saying, of course I want to live in South Africa because he really wants to live in South Africa at the time, she was playing along with that. But Tom Bauer calls that a flat out lie. He claims Meghan went into full detective mode before their very first date. She studied Harry. She researched Harry very carefully and knew exactly what buttons to press. that he would like Africa, he was interested in animals, he was interested in philanthropy, she's very tactile, she's very seductive, and she landed him on the first night, even on his own admission. He says, I realized on the first date she was the one. And of course that's because she's also great in that sense, an actress. She knew exactly how to play. She researched what he cared about: Africa, animals, charity work. She figured out exactly what kind of woman he would fall for, and then she became that woman. even viewing houses in South Africa via WhatsApp group. But she had no intention of moving to South Africa with him and escaping the press and living a private life. What she always intended to do was go to California, but she had to play along with everything he wanted for a certain amount of time. There's only so much time she can tolerate not getting her own way playing the royal game, so I think she wanted to hurry it up for that reason and also, of course, to close the deal. Bauer says she knew exactly which buttons to push, and it worked like a charm. Harry reportedly said after just one date that he knew she was the one. But was that really love at first sight, or was it just a very well-executed performance? Well, I think that's exactly what I was saying about they realized before they even got married, that Harry had become a sort of grievance machine. He had literally turned and changed from being this charming, loving young prince into a person constantly complaining. And that was entirely This one is hard to watch when you think about it. Tom Bower believes Meghan deliberately drove a wedge between Harry and his closest friends. It did not happen overnight, it was slow, quiet, calculated. During a shooting weekend at Sandringham in 2017, Meghan reportedly confronted Harry's friends over jokes she found offensive. The topics included sexism, feminism, and transgender issues. this this this particular saga at Sandringham, uh which obviously was told by someone who was there, was a decisive moment. I mean this is the moment where effectively she says to Harry that you've got to dump all your friends. None of those people at his shooting weekend were then invited to the dinner after the wedding. I mean that was the crunch that he she separated him from his hinterland. And of course he does suffer now enormously. Now, nobody is saying you cannot stand up for what you believe in, but what happened next says everything. Not a single one of those friends from that weekend was invited to the dinner after the royal wedding. Think about that, his lifelong friends, gone, just like that. It was not just Sandringham, even before Harry and Meghan's own wedding, the warning signs were already showing up at other people's events. is always a huge test, a big test on any relationship. So we must just wait and see. I mean that's what makes this story so fascinating because it plays out in front of us daily, weekly. And we just wonder, how will it end? It's my view that Harry loves Megan, but I just wonder whether Megan loves him, Tom. Well, other than loving herself massively. At the Jamaica wedding of Harry's close friend, Tommy Inskip, Meghan reportedly complained about the food and the service, making people around her uncomfortable. She came across as arrogant, and the atmosphere was tense. Those friends who were once expected to stand right beside Harry on his big day, ended up being kept away. And in their place, celebrities she had known for five minutes. People who barely knew Harry at all. Say then happened when they went to Tomm Inskip's wedding in Jamaica, uh, which is a friend, a great friend of Harry's who in the end was banned from the uh dinner after their wedding. Yeah, well, quite. I know, I know at least three of the very good friends were apparently banned. All by Megan. And then they saw all these celebrities filing in, who'd known her about three minutes. Yeah, exactly. According to Bower, it was Meghan, not Harry, who made those calls. But he was not counting that Megan decided to crash the wedding just to reassure the world that whatever Megan wants, Megan gets. And that must be the reason why it was convenient that this photographer, whoever it was, could catch on camera several moments where not Meg was marking her territory. Not to mention giving those death stares to the woman that was trying to have a conversation with Harry. Here is something that got buried under all the glamour of the wedding day. Meghan's own family was almost entirely absent. Her father, Thomas Markle, staged fake paparazzi photos before the wedding and then suffered a heart attack, missing the ceremony entirely. which Megan revealed is, and that I think is very surprising that she hoped her father would not come to the wedding. This is months before the wedding actually took place. And we know the whole story about the father having the heart attack and at the last minute bailing out. But she deliberately announced she did not want her father to lead her down the aisles and George's chapel, months before it happened. So that shows you exactly how she manipulated the father to you know, in the end selling his pictures to a paparazzi and giving interviews. She manipulated the hostility. Her brother and sister were not even invited. The only family member who made it was her mother, Doria, and she reportedly only arrived two days before the wedding. No, no. Why did Harry never go to meet Thomas? Why is that? Well, I think because Megan didn't want him to meet a fat old man. I mean, Megan was very worried. That's why she brought her mother across the wedding just two days before the ceremony. What do we know about her mother? Her mother's a mysterious figure. Very misterious. The book tells it all. I mean the mother really was a very odd woman, disappeared for 10 years effectively during her childhood. That's why Thomas had to bring her up, and in the end what Thomas says is that it was Doria who really engineered the split between himself and Meghan because she wanted the fame and the glory. King Charles himself reportedly stepped in and privately asked Meghan to fly to the United States to patch things up with her father. He wanted the drama to stop before it became a public embarrassment. Meghan said no. She cited security and privacy. The senior royals were not happy, and the whole modern loving family image the wedding was supposed to project, it was already cracking before the vows were even said. herself and Harry and the father and it quite shocked the Royal family and the members of the establishment that there was no doubt in their mind before the marriage that it was not going to continue for long in Britain. So she was a very broken woman when she met Prince Charles and that was as we all know a terribly unhappy marriage. But she then became glamorous. She she suddenly discovered her fame because she was very beautiful and very charming and she loved the attention and she obviously spotted particularly journalists who who not only attractive but would do what she wanted. During the engagement and leading up to the wedding, Harry and Meghan leaned heavily into comparisons between Meghan and Princess Diana. The wedding veil, the public storytelling, the way things were framed to the press, to many people inside the royal family. This felt deeply disrespectful. The idea that she was Diana was all just a fantasy both of herself and of Harry. And Harry completely misunderstood his mother who he obviously barely knew and didn't realize what a manipulative and determined woman she was herself. So he completely misjudged the comparison between Meghan and his mother and his mother had amazing status. She looked beautiful, she had terrific poise, she worked very hard at being a royal. She was very empathetic with a lot of sick people, none of the things that Meghan would ever dream of doing. Diana had spent years earning the love of the public. She worked tirelessly, she connected with ordinary people in extraordinary ways. She built something real, and here was Megan, barely through the palace doors, already being presented in the same light. Bauer does not hold back on this. He says the Diana comparison was a fantasy, and he says Harry who barely knew his own mother, completely misread who she really was and made a terrible mistake drawing that parallel. Well, you see that's that's the problem. But they play the Diana card, just as I would say that unfortunately in some way Megan plays the race card. He's always the victim and the victim is always gets un-question sympathy without question, that's the way it plays at the moment in society. And Harry likes to portray Megan as Diana, but they've got absolutely nothing in common at all. Because Diana for all her criticism of Charles was always absolutely loyal to the queen and completely loyal to the monarchy. and although obviously she thought about herself in terms of her life. She would never put herself above the monarchy, which of course was the downfall of Megan in Britain, that she wanted to be number one. She didn't want to be part of a team and they play the Diana card to suggest that when she is criticized, her fate will be the same as Diana's, but I think most people have seen through that now, they were shocked at the beginning and sympathetic. We told you number seven would hit differently, and here it is. Behind the scenes palace staff were reportedly in chaos, not because of the pressure of organizing a royal wedding, they had done that before, but because of Meghan. Staff described feeling bombarded, overwhelmed, micromanaged to the point where some simply quit. Aids reportedly started avoiding any direct contact with her, because every single conversation could turn into a list of new demands and corrections. She's been really humiliated, whether it was in the Vanity Fair piece, or in the Variety piece. I mean, you don't see her then. You never see Megan looking down, you never see her defeated, you never get a hint of vulnerability. She disappears and then emerges all well-dressed, all the rest of it when she can put a big smile on or at least look serious and uh well, she thinks to be glamorous. And I think to that extent, you know, she's an extraordinary survivor. Even Princess Katherine, who came to offer suggestions during the bridesmaid dress planning, was reportedly shut down. Meghan wanted things done her way, no exceptions, no compromises. For people who had served the royal family with pride for years, this was a deeply uncomfortable environment to work in, and the frustration inside the palace was very real. that Megan was crying about the fate of Charles and Kate, uh one one more things that perhaps you thought, well, um there are some blessings in the world as well. I mean, the point is that they were very late in sending any commiserations to Kate and of course, Harry's dash to London to see his father was all contrived as well. He didn't make much sense. So what actually happened inside the mansion and Montecito that day. I I can't say for sure, I wouldn't count, but I don't believe that there was much sorrow and when Kate then made her errors about the photographs. Tom Bower makes a bold claim here. He says Meghan used the entire wedding, the global audience, the cameras, the historic setting, not just as a celebration of love, but as a carefully managed launch of her personal brand. Every moment was curated, every image was considered. There's no mystery about her. She is just a hugely ambitious grasping person. And I think that is in the end what brings her down. that there is nothing original about her. She's tried her hardest through Netflix and uh and all the various um podcasts to be able to borrow a very indicative individual for her and prove herself unique and has consistently failed to do that. And the reason why, I may just say, why it's so fascinating is because of course they are global characters, they're global celebrities. They have caused enormous damage to the Royal family and we are all fascinated how this is going to end. When the 2017 Vanity Fair cover story about her and Harry ran the headline, she's just wild about Harry. Meghan was reportedly furious. Not because it was wrong, but because it focused on Harry instead of her. She wanted the story to be about her work, her values, her image. That tells you something. It just shows you what a child he is. A schoolboy not realizing the damage she was inflicting on himself, the humiliation, the parody. What's really the most interesting courses, very often these celebrities have their biographies, autobiographies ghosted and they never read it themselves. And what's remarkable is he never thought to himself, is this odd, am I doing the right thing? He does he you know, the only thing he's fixated on is always the arguments. Most people in a new relationship would be happy with a Vanity Fair cover. Meghan wanted to control exactly what that cover said about her, and according to Bower, that hunger for control never went away. Now we get to one of the most explosive claims in the entire book. Tom Bower says Meghan's end goal was not just to marry a prince, she wanted to be queen. He told closer magazine directly, Meghan wants everything Kate has, the status, the popularity, the crown. I think uh she wouldn't want to emulate her, she just wants to undermine her and beat her. I mean that's the whole point. She's constantly looking for opportunities. Uh first of all to promote herself. Secondly, to say that she would be a better future queen. And thirdly, to make sure whenever Kate and William do anything, she's sort of balanced it with something that she's done. Knowing she will squash the British Royal families initiative and hopefully put herself on top. I mean, this is really where it's all really quite ugly and quite nasty. And it's all part of the betrayal. But here's the problem, Harry is not first in line. He was never going to be king. So if the queen plan was not going to work, Meghan was apparently already thinking ahead. Look at the wedding guest list. It was full of Hollywood power players, producers, executives, A-list celebrities. At the time, people thought it was sweet that she was sharing her world with Harry. But Bower says those were not just guests, they were contacts. She was already building the network that would one day land her Netflix deals, book deals, and a media empire, all while still wearing the royal title like a golden ticket. one of the many revelations in the book. I mean the jam which was meant to be strawberry pitching her garden and then lovingly turned into jam on her on the hob in her kitchen with really but looking on. In fact it's a spread manufactured in Ohio, Illinois. And uh put into a rather attractive jar we track the jaw makers down too, and they sold very few of them because to the um to the Illinois bottling plant, manufactured. So of course not. Uh that is why Netflix have finally admitted or revealed this week that they are ending their relationship with her, which I predicted in my book. I mean the book just shows exactly how Megan's commercial ambitions failed right at the very beginning. This is perhaps the most painful truth of all. Harry walked away from his family, he gave up his military titles, he left his country, he turned his back on the only life he had ever known. She she undoubtedly manipulated him and used and exploited his weaknesses, but you've got to put it the other side of this uh that he on the other hand couldn't find an English woman who wanted to live with him. I mean they all fled because of his depressions and paranoia, and here is a woman Megan who was his safety net, and provided what he thought would be the mollycoddling and the love and uh security he was desperately looking for. And so it seemed at the beginning, but of course since then we've seen how she is completely exploited her position and become a global star at the expense of the royal family and of Britain. And Tom Bower's conclusion is brutal. He says Meghan's loyalty has always followed one rule, what is useful to her? She left her first husband when the marriage stopped serving her goals. She cut off her father when he became an embarrassment. I mean that that is everything that matters. She's a creature of Hollywood. She knows that celebrity images is what earns the money and that's what she must protect. That's always been the view of many people that she will dump him when he's no longer much use. But uh she'd have to have an escape route. She'd have to find a sort of a Silicon Valley or somehow aging billionaire that would want to take her on. I don't think she'd walk into the wilderness. I can't imagine any man finding happiness with Megan Markel. I mean, I think it would be really difficult. She dropped friends who could not keep up, and Bower says if a wealthier, more powerful man were to come along, someone with deeper pockets and bigger connections, there is a real chance Harry gets left behind too. Harry gave up his whole world, and according to Bower, the woman he gave it up for may have always seen him as the world's most famous stepping stone. He's not there to pontificate endlessly and repeatedly about mental mental illness which he has no other than his personal alleged traumas his discussed endlessly. Meghan doesn't talk anyway about substantial things. There isn't anything more she can say and that's the whole point about this saga that they there existence is a threat to the British Royal family because they can only survive by damaging the royal family and saying negative things. And so how does it end? What what more damage can they do? What more can they threaten? How can they earn a living to support their very expensive lifestyle? That's that's the whole point, you know, there's a car crash coming. So there you have it, 10 hard truths from Tom Bower about the royal wedding that the fairy tale version never told you.
