[0:00]You see in this video. You know when when Jesus hung on the cross, He said, "My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?" Because Jesus wasn't just saying words. He was quoting scripture. He was pointing us to Psalm 22. Because Psalm 22 opens with the exact same words. My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? But today I just want to focus on one verse. In Psalm 22:6 says, "But I am a worm, and not a man." The common Hebrew word for worm is Rima, but the word used in this verse six is not Rima. It is Tola. Tola refers to a very, very specific type of worm called the Crimson worm. What does Jesus want us to know about this Crimson worm? But I'm going to spare you the scientific details. And instead read to you how Brooke Ligertwood beautifully describes it. A crimson worm only lays eggs once in her lifetime. When her time has come, the crimson worm inches her way up a tree. And she adheres herself on the wood. As she takes her position and presses her body against the wood, she forms a hard crimson colored shell which welds her to the wood surface. Her choice is made, and it's permanent. This is the position in which she spends the rest of her natural life. And it's there under her body, under that distinctive, protective, crimson shell that her children are born. And then the most peculiar thing happens. The children of the Tola begins feeding on the living body of the mother for the next three days. "I am a Tola, a crimson worm, and not a man." And after three days, the crimson worm gives up her life. And as she does, one of the most profound events in all of nature takes place. From the body of the mother, a blood red substance begins to flow that stains the wood to which she has been attached. The Crimson worm has one purpose for climbing that tree. Sacrifice. The only way for her children to live is for her to die. She willingly climbs up that tree knowing that she will not come down alive. Jesus Christ has one purpose in coming into this world. Sacrifice. The only way for us to live is for Him to die. This is how we know what love is. Christ Jesus laid down His life for us.
