[0:00]The wood on the jack holding up the rear of the transmission fell I don't know how you are going to get this back together Yep So everybody, yesterday I started to tackle these exhaust bolts and I got nowhere. As you can see, there's no thread on them and they were impossible to twist off. Um So I tried some heat. I have a little propane torch. Couldn't get it hot enough, though. I think you need to get it like glowing red hot. It wouldn't get glowing red hot. Still was hot, though. I try to cut it off with a Dremel. Dremel didn't really work either. Could only gently cut into it. I think the steel is too strong, so I went and bought an angle grinder and a chisel. Um I'm going to try to chisel it out first because then I can return this. And if that doesn't work, we're going to go for the big dog and just grind those off. And I already bought some new hardware, new bolts and and nuts for the exhaust and then we'll just spray paint them with some paint or something. So let's try this out.
[1:54]I mean, that's barely doing anything.
[2:18]All right. One burnt piece. Very hot piece of metal. Now, I don't know if that's going to work because now we have to kind of sand or drill on this part. I don't know. I don't know how we're going to get to that one too. I may have to take this pipe off first.
[2:48]So, um, I was able to get all four exhaust bolts out. Uh, two tooth angle grinder and then hitting it with a chisel with and then one with the torch. Um, well, three with the angle grinder and then hitting it with a chisel and then one with the torch and getting this breaker bar on it cuz it's the one at the back you can't access it. Just heated it up for a couple minutes, and then I I uh hammered on this socket and I was able to navigate this breaker bar in there. Luckily, to get off. So this is still hot. I'm going to let it cool. Knock the side. It looks like it broke a little bit of my socket. Yeah, give it broke a bit of my socket. But at least this is out. Um, I'm going to grind down the just grind these down a little bit more and then I'm going to take this apart so that this this can actually unhook. I'll just kind of gently hammer in here to to get this to disconnect.
[4:03]And then our exhaust will be uh disconnected, hopefully. And then once this is out, I'll grind these down and replace them with um some new hardware. I kind of hammered on this with a chisel until these separated. So these two are good to go. This took hours, though. I definitely cut these bolts off or if you're going to think about doing this, just go to a shop and get them to unbolt this first. Uh may save you some time or, you know, if I had a lift, I think it would be easier to work on it, but right now I have like I have like zero space between me and the car. Um, okay, so we're under the car. Um, I'm going to take care of these, um, bolts later. I'm going to think about it a bit more. But, um, we're going to keep moving forward. Uh, three bolts on the drive shaft. It's the black ones right there. This one, this one and one behind. Uh, we want to, uh, yeah, remove those and let the drive shaft hang. And then we want to disconnect the shifter cable. There are these little tabs that are right there. On either side of that fork. It's like a fork.
[5:28]And then back here, there's also one more tab on the shift linkage. It's right there. And I think we pull that off. It'll disconnect the fork and and from the shifter, cuz this this piece of metal here goes in and out to shift gears. And then undo these transmission mounts. There's one here. I don't know if you guys can see this, there's one here, one here on top. Um, of course, unhook these exhaust mounts. Um you have to take off the slave cylinder as well. It's just right here. Once you take off the slave cylinder, you don't need to unhook the actual pressure line. Just unpl. Sorry, not unplug. Just there are two bolts here. Just take the two bolts off and the slave cylinder will come out. Don't press the clutch, cuz it'll push everything out of the slave cylinder. Um, and I think Oh, yeah. Undo these.
[6:44]These are the the exhaust sensor connections.
[6:55]Um, undo the oil pressure sensor connector.
[7:05]And I think what I'm going to do is unhook the fuel line, which is right here. But don't unhook it. There's a Shrader valve on the fuel rail that, um, will allow you to depressurize the system first. And then right here, you should be able to unhook the pressure, the sorry, the fuel line. And it looks like there's one more thing, and I don't know what that is, yet.
[7:47]Uh, I have to Google it. Oh, and you have one more ground cable right here that you should undo. And in terms of underneath the car, I think that's everything. The transmission will come out with the engine, I hope. So I'm just trying to figure out how to undo these these shifter linkages.
[8:29]So for that one, I just, uh, spun it towards myself and then put my hand up in here, and then pulled it, pulled it off this way with my hand and then this just pops out. Wow, I'm like a terrible film maker here. This is hard to film, but now I'm assuming these clips also just pop off this way.
[9:00]I have to put the camera down for this again. Okay, so I got these pieces off. The trick is stick the screwdriver into the left side of the clip and then twist it and then pull it up. You see, there's a little tab here that locks it in place on the shift linkage. Then just pull this out. Just like that. Do the same for the other side. There you go.
[9:31]And this should be loose now. Yep. Loose and this is loose. So that's ready to pull out. Now, I was thinking of taking the drive shaft out, cuz I mean, how am I going to I'm going to have to put this back in, like perfectly, and I don't know if I want to do that, but also don't know if I want to drop the whole exhaust and spend all that time doing that.
[10:01]But I think I may have to do that. Next, we're going to undo the slave cylinder. Um, it's just a 13 mil and, uh, there's one on this side and one up top. So just get an extension on there. And remember, don't depress the clutch pedal after this is out, cuz you'll, you'll probably damage the slave cylinder and have to get a new one. It'll like blow it all apart. Don't ask me how I know. So slave cylinder is out. Also, don't forget to unhook the reverse light switch. It was right here. You just press the tab in. You just press the tab in like that. Unclip it, move it as far back out of the way as you can so it's not wrapped around the transmission. I'm also taking off this exhaust, um, bracket.
[10:55]It's a T10, E11, sorry, or E10, and a 13 mil.
[11:06]I mean, if you can get a lift, get a lift. This is kind of exhausting on the ground.
[11:22]I also think it's good practice that whenever you guys take off something, take off a bolt or something, whatever, just put it back and tighten it up loosely, so that you remember that's where it went.
[11:40]Um, so I guess the last things down here are to undo these, uh, transmission mount bolts.
[11:51]I know that on the top, though, they kind of slot in, so I'm not sure whether I take them out with the transmission or I just loosen the tops and as it comes out or what?
[12:35]Um, I'm going to think about that. So, actually, I'm an idiot. You could have just left this on and undid these two Torx brackets. Torx bolts. So I think I'm going to do this back up and just undo the bracket from the transmission cuz this is way too low. I was thinking I'm going to smash this when I take it out, so I'm going to undo this. All right, so now that almost everything underneath is disconnected, we're going to start taking apart the top. Um, we're going to take off the intake. Uh, take a look at that. And I believe everything else should be able to come out. We have to unhook this, um, uh, vacuum line to there. Just take that off. And also, there's this line which I don't fully understand what it is, yet.
[13:37]Hooks into some wiring harness. Anyway, that just that just will pull off. Um, and then we'll open our Schrader valve right here to release the fuel pressure. Unhook our fuel pressure line, and then get underneath, um, unhook the transmission mounts, support it with a jack. And get a crane on this thing. And then we'll undo the motor mounts on either side. You can kind of see it there. Maybe I can't even access that. That, um, bolt, so maybe we'll just unbolt that entire motor mount from the bottom, but then I don't know how I'm going to maneuver it out of there. We'll see about that. And then, uh, unhook this AC line. It has to come off somewhere.
[14:36]Dang. We'll figure that out. Maybe I'll just unhook it right there. And I don't know, maybe there's one or two other things, but, uh, I think that's everything. That's it. And of course, we still need to take off this bracket here.
[14:58]As far as I can see. I mean, that's everything. Unhook this power steering banjo bolt. Um, I mean, I don't know if it needs to be done, but just because it's out, I'm going to put this in a vise. Um, and then Yeah, take the exhaust, um take the exhaust off. Put it on that one. I'm going to actually repair this AC compressor. I'm going to replace the bearing in it just for um I mean, I don't know if it needs to be done, but just because it's out, you can put this in a vise. And if you guys are interested in me tearing down this engine, just for science, for science purposes to figure out what went wrong. Um, you know, put your, put your, uh, guesses in the comments. Was it valve stem seals? Was it piston rings? Um, was it some other mechanical failure?
[15:43]You can see the intake valves are are pretty clean. Um, not a lot of oil in the intake. So, what was it? Uh, why was this burning 1 liter every 300 km? Isn't that crazy? Put your guesses down below. And I'll see you guys in the next video when we swap this all over. Thanks so much for watching. Give the video a thumbs up if you found any of this information useful. And don't forget to subscribe if you like this kind of content. I mean, we're going to rebuild this whole car. It's pretty exciting. Anyway, see you guys in the next video.
