[0:00]In regular practice we are meeting dozens of patients who have been for years on two meals or intermittent fasting. We find three reasons why they are not able to overcome diabetes.
[0:11]First one is connected to reduced muscle mass which is very dangerous. Number two is ghrelin hormone not kicking in and number three the fear of insulin secretion.
[0:27]Understand all the three points properly. Number one, when you start eating less number of times, it's obvious that you will lose weight.
[0:36]But over a period of time, along with weight, you are also losing muscle and we see anything between 3 to 6 kg of pure muscle being lost between three to five years of people adopting to a two meal or an intermittent fasting plan.
[0:53]So long term wise, both these plans start backfiring because muscle is the engine which burns glucose and fat throughout the day and night.
[1:05]And if that starts reducing, that's not good for you. Number two, because the body gets so used to eating two meals,
[1:15]ghrelin hormone, which is the hunger hormone, gets secreted around those times. So, if we ask some of them that please start taking a breakfast, your body needs to grow now.
[1:28]They are not able to handle the breakfast. They just don't feel hungry because ghrelin has just gone kaput. It is not getting secreted enough to create that kind of an hunger so that you can digest the breakfast.
[1:43]And the third very important, as if it's like a fear of God installed, the fear of insulin secretion.
[1:52]What has been told by certain authorities is that same amount of insulin is secreted irrespective of what you eat or how much you eat.
[2:04]Now this is terribly unscientific advice because you also can rationalise it.
[2:12]The amount of insulin needed to digest half an apple has to be much lesser than digesting five jalebis or desserts.
[2:22]If you eat more, your body and your pancreas is intelligent enough to secrete more insulin.
[2:29]If you eat less, it secretes less insulin. So, the fear of insulin secretion stops many people from eating more number of times.
[2:37]Dear friends, please understand, insulin is also your friend. It's a growth hormone. It will help you grow your muscles, which will create longevity for you.
[2:50]And through such videos, we will try to bust the myths around so called healthy advice which might backfire for some of you. So, stay tuned!
