[0:10]Yeah, hello participants. See what I have. Hey, you wonder what is Peter Okebukola doing on March 11th, 2026 with these tools. If I get hammer self, I get hammer, yes.
[0:21]So, why the reason is simple that we're training you to be rankers and you want to be, you want to earn ranking professional certification and you cannot do any ranking.
[0:35]This this three lessons from now, the three practicals will be do it yourself. Your motor breakdown for road. I say mechanic. Yeah, you're going to do it yourself.
[0:44]So, that is the hurt of the matter today. We'll be looking at how we do unweighted rankings. So, you won a national ranking consultancy.
[0:56]There's an advertisement somewhere that, hey, they want a ranker. And the others that are that are not any other certificate cannot apply.
[1:03]They cannot do well. So you have applied and what then, how do you prove your metal in the consultancy? How do you say what what else you can do?
[1:09]So there are seven steps to national university rankings. The one seven steps. There may be other steps but the seven steps that I have been working with, and other global ranking indicators have been doing.
[1:23]So first thing is to agree on the indicators. Then set up data portal and and the rest. So let's begin.
[1:30]We agree on the indicators. Why? So you got to get the stakeholders, oh my friends. Now, what indicators are we going to use for this our ranking?
[1:40]If you noticed all the, you know my trend, I'll take the history. All of them that will be studying in this lesson.
[1:48]They will start somehow somehow and they'll be building on the indicators. When we started NUC, 2001, we used what you call academic quality index and then we're building, building over time.
[1:59]So don't worry if you start, just start small. So you agree on the indicators for this particular exercise, we have drawn all the all indicators for all the major global ranking schemes.
[2:09]Why? We don't want anybody to say, look at their this water water water indicators. So you are talking about academic ranking of all universities, we did there. webometrics, we did there. Transide education.
[2:22]So these are the indicators that we are pulled out. And what are the indicators? See them. Academic reputation, employer reputation, employment outcomes.
[2:32]13 of them, 13 of them, web presence and visibility. So, you have agreed, we don't agree. Oh yeah, yeah, we don't agree.
[2:40]So next thing is to set up a portal for entering data from the universities online form for university data submission. Hey, that's what I tried to do last week.
[2:50]I asked you to put in data and let's look at the form. Yeah, so this is the form that I asked you to fill.
[2:59]Let me go to, let's see now. Let's uh see, let's see. Yeah, let's go to this view.
[3:07]preview. So you you came here, you put in your registration number, uh your surname, your first name, discipline, uh geographical location.
[3:17]You know all of these things that you did. All the way down to those indicators that I asked you, just, you know, just guess what what your score will be. So, that's what we did. And that's what you should do when you have won that.
[3:29]50 billion, you don't know. 50 million consultancy, uh, to rank, uh, universities. Yeah, so what's the next step? The next step of course, step three is to advertise the portal.
[3:41]The thing don't open. Notify the institutions and stakeholders, just like I notified you. I sent you a mail and I said all certification track participants put in something.
[3:53]And I indicated, this hammer, what did it happen? Hey, I indicated that the form will stop taking entries from tomorrow, Monday, March 9th at 12 noon.
[4:04]So, the design an online form capturing all 13 indicators, we have done. Enable secure institution specific logins.
[4:11]Yes, I tried to do that. How? I'll tell you. You know I asked you to put M12, that's Module 12 C dash.
[4:20]So only only those who are Module 12, who are within uh the the catchment area that we can use, that's those that are allowed.
[4:29]You know some people will do, wuruwuru to the others and they came and put all manner of uh this there.
[4:36]And when I published it, you know I knocked, I knocked them out. So include data validation to reduce input errors. You notice that I put data validation, which you learned in Module 11, that when it is, when you want to put 200%, you say no, no, no, the thing is from zero to 100.
[4:51]Test with a pilot group before full launch. So you have to test with a pilot group. Maybe that's what we'll do now.
[4:56]Enforce deadline strictly and transparently. I told you, you have to close. And when it closed, it closed. This form isn't accepting responses.
[5:04]And so, what did we do? We gave you 500 marks. Some others, hey, since 500. Oh, I'm sorry, my network, uh, no, no, no. Send reminders, I sent some reminders, but not you know, send reminders at 7, 3, and 1 day before close.
[5:16]Lock the portal and export final data set. So, this is the final data set. Uh, let me just show you what we did. Yeah, so when, uh, you close, you close. This form isn't accepting responses. And so, we had to explore the data.
[5:33]So you go here, you know the, you know all of these things. So view in sheets. So, uh, the one I showed you just now is this one. View in sheets. And there you can download, uh, download file. Uh, let's see now, file.
[5:50]You download, uh, let's download to Excel. So, and that's what we're going to be using. Yeah, so this is the Excel file that I'm going to be sending to you. You can see all the data we requested, uh, all the data, all the data are here. Uh, coming to this last one here.
[6:17]Yes. So what, uh, I'm sending to you is this data. But I've taken off, uh, the date, uh, the day stamp and the rest and other things that you may not be needing.
[6:26]Yeah, so I'm, uh, on this step five, harvest. Harvest, harvest go, go, yeah. Harvest good data.
[6:36]And quality assure the data. Download all portal submissions into a master data set. That is what I showed you just now, to an Excel file.
[6:45]Check for implausible or duplicate entries. You know I'll be warning you duplicate, duplicate, duplicate. So, uh, we're going to check that now.
[6:55]Prepare a clean, audit ready data set for processing. Let me show you how I did that.
[7:01]Yeah, you actually have a feedback, uh, from me because I sent a, I sent, uh, the names of, uh, those who tried to crash without correct, uh, registration numbers. And then you're going to see how you continue to, uh, clean up as we progress.
[7:19]Yeah, so I prepared a clean, audit ready data set for processing. That's the one I'm going to send to you.
[7:26]And so, what is next? What is next? Is action, action, action, action. What action is that?
[7:32]Go to rank the universities. Hey, where are the universities? Let me tell you what I did. All of you will be a university. One person, no, no, no.
[7:40]Each person is a university. So the participant's name will be named with the university. So you're going to regard you if you are Peter Okebukola, Peter Okebukola University.
[7:51]If you are Biodun Saliu, Biodun Saliu University. So that's what you're going to have. So we have 900 something universities participating here. So what are you going to do? We are not going to do any weighting.
[7:57]No, it's unweighted. We're total score is sum of all the 13 indicators scores. Add all the things that I said we to do.
[8:07]Then you rank them from highest to lowest. Then results from the base line before weighted ranking in part two. We're going to do part two which will be weighting. This one, no weighting. No, I'm not going to conduct any weighting at all.
[8:17]So let's look at practical seven. So, in practical seven, what you're going to do? Okay, let me come back to this. That's the report, uh, report sheet for practical number seven.
[8:31]Yes, so this is data set for module 12. Do it yourself rankings. This is what you're going to get.
[8:37]So I suggest to you that you save it, save it somewhere and then maybe rename this file and keep going because you may not be, you are not going to be submitting this to us.
[8:46]See, uh, let's see this, uh, university, Abdullahi Suleiman University, where for academic reputation, you can see the scores.
[8:54]See the scores as we, as we progress. Let me make this bigger. Uh, see the scores as, uh, we progress. So these are the scores. So what are we going to do?
[9:03]You know these things, you know these things, you know these things. I've just created a total column there. And so you're going to get the total. Just add. Get your calculator. 60, 70, 20. And I get this thing. I get the other ones. Hey, that not a long story.
[9:17]Let me give you a shortcut. You put this one here. Uh, is that is that you get it? No, you don't. Yeah, just put your, you know it was here, it was here, and then here.
[9:27]So what are you going to do because you want the total scores for the system to add up like this by row. So you just go to here, auto sum. Heh, this so you don't try for us.
[9:37]Auto sum. Then you say sum. Just sum here. Uh, so you get uh, this. Yeah, again you're going to auto sum. See the thing here, auto sum. Put it here and say sum. So it gives you there. Just hit enter. Enter. You can see, it has given you all the all the total scores here. That is very wonderful.
[10:02]So what's the next thing? The next thing is for you to now sort this from highest to lowest. How do you do that? Oh, so very easy.
[10:14]Look at this thing. Sort and filter. So you come here. Uh, let's do uh, from it was Z. Let's see. No, no. It's giving us this. You have to do. I did that purpose, purpose. Purposely. So you go to here.
[10:30]You're going to be descending order from Z to this thing. Aha. So you see, you see the scores. So this is the number one rank university, number two rank university and the rest of them. Now, what I found, I didn't want to let you, I didn't want to delete it for you earlier. See this, Aguene Charity Kenechukwu.
[10:50]uh, gave, look, look at the scores that, uh, he or she gave. 100, 100, 100, 100, 100, 100 and duplicated it. So what you must do, uh, is to delete this one.
[11:00]Just highlight this row. Highlight this row and delete it because it's like, like, like, like, like we purifying, it's giving us impurity here.
[11:11]Clear, charity, Kenechukwu, out of here. So you just go to here and delete. But I'm not going to delete. I'm going to leave it for you to delete because you're going to get this, uh, set, this data as I have it right here.
[11:23]So after doing that, okay, let me delete it so I can see how I do the ranking. Uh, delete. Mm-hm. So what does it mean now?
[11:34]It means that the number one person is this person, 12, 30, 1283. So how do you, very simple. How do you transfer? Look, what you're going to do for that first, uh, operation.
[11:48]Is to all these ones you don't need them. You don't need them. Look, you don't need this, you don't need this, you don't need this, you don't need all of this. So, uh, what do you then do? Hey, you right click this one and you hide, hide the thing.
[12:00]Hide, where's hide? Eh, hide the thing. Finish now. So, it's giving you now. Number one is Opeyemi Glory University. Number two is, uh, uh, Charles, Opeyemi Glory University. Charles Peters, you, you can see.
[12:16]I'm asking you to give the top 10. So you're going to stop it here. Top 10. And that is the one for the first table. I show you.
[12:26]Yeah, so this is it. This is your report, uh, report template. Do it yourself, part one. So you put the name of the university, put the thing here. You actually can copy them and then bring the thing right here. And the viral total will be there.
[12:38]So, okay, this all. I have for all of them. Then I want you to rank by federal universities, state universities, private university, southwest university, south-south, southeast, all of this, all of this.
[12:51]All of this, quite wonderful. Uh, let me just show you one of them, and then I'll show you how to do one of them.
[13:00]Let's see the federal universities. Hey, this is the data set, oh, we'll not see the federal again. Now, lie, be that. What you do is undo. If you do Ctrl+Z, it will, it will, hold the control key and press Z.
[13:14]It will show the thing again. So you know we want for federal university. So it means we are going to hide for the, for the type of university. Eh, this one. We're going to hide this one.
[13:22]See oh, quite easy. And we're going to hide all the others. All the others to here. Mm-hm. Up to here. We need the total. By the way. So you hide this one. So what is it giving us?
[13:36]Is giving us the name of the university. That's your, the name of the, uh, participant. Is giving us ownership by university of university and then the total.
[13:45]So what are you going to do? Like I said, I'm going to give one example. So here, uh, ownership of the, you have to sort. Let's sort this one. Let's sort this. Let's sort, sort. So you go to here.
[13:55]Sort this column. Yeah, yeah, that column. You're going to sort. You can say whatever, whatever. So it's given us the federal. See, federal, federal, federal, federal. Oh, oh, wonderful. All of these federal universities. And if you notice, is given us the scores in that descending order.
[14:21]Ain't this thing wonderful? Ranking is not a big deal for all of those, uh, global university rankings. You think there are 1 million people doing it? No. Just one or two. Uh, so that, that's the thing.
[14:28]So what is going to happen is that we want the top 10. So this number one, this number two, this number three, number four, number five, number six. So you say, Charles Peters, Abimbola Ayenati University.
[14:41]I don't know how this person can put Excel there, but don't worry yourself. Put Excel. Oh yeah, that's the name Excel. Excellent person. So Ezzy Emmanuel is number two University at the Federal.
[14:52]The next is Thomas Andrew, Federal. The other ones are, are. So quite simple task. You do it up to here, up to here and that goes off. So, for the others. How you going to do well? Very simple. Undo again.
[15:07]Undo this thing again. Undo everything again so that you have everything. So, if you are going to do, uh, by, uh, we've done that, we've done ownership. Uh, I'm not asking you for the age of the university. Let's say, I'm asking you for what else?
[15:25]Uh, location, Southwest. I'm telling you, I'm asking you about location. So you hide this one and you hide the others.
[15:30]So you have only the geopolitical location and then you sort again. Quite, quite simple. Quite, quite easy. Yeah, so we've done by federal. You can do by state, by private, by southwest. That's why I just showed you.
[15:46]By southwest, southeast, northeast. I think that's all. That's all. That's all. Then what you need to do is now provide a detailed analysis and discussion of the results, discuss this and then make recommendations. So, what are we getting? We're getting 4,520 marks.
[16:01]For correct ranking of 10 tables, 400. Hey, by 10 tables, 4,000. Discussion, recommendation and conclusion, 520. So that's how it's going to be in practical number seven.
[17:15]So how has our journey been so far? We selected 13 indicators and we set up data portal. We've advertised, collected submissions and enforced deadline.
[17:27]We've harvested, we've cleaned and began processing data. The first one we did, rank universities by unweighted total scores. Hey, what is next? We're still going to be using our tools because do, do it yourself.
[17:42]The next practical, practical eight, will will be unweighted, will be weighted, not, will be on, oh it will be on. We will be, weighted ranking and sensitivity analysis.
[17:55]We're doing the rankings, you know, the weightings as, as we go along. And you'll be able to see that any small tweak in the proportion of the, of, uh, of the weightings will change the whole, whole thing. So the ranker has the final, I can't query your, your ranker, like you. Uh, you then tell the consultants, uh, the those who gave the consultancy, that that's how the thing's going to be.
[18:20]So congratulations again, and I look forward to seeing you in the next lesson, practical number eight, from your sincerely Peter Okebukola, who's my follower.
