[0:17]Some days you walk away thinking you said too much. Words you wish you had kept to yourself. Why did you say them in the first place? There are good reasons to say less. First, words that put you on display often come from insecurity. What you paid for stocks, where you bought property, how difficult things have been. Those words often come out when you want to be seen and recognized. But the moment you say them, something inside feels slightly off. Being honest and putting yourself on display are not the same thing. Second, words can pull you in before you realize it. Nothing has happened yet, but once you say it out loud, it starts to feel as if it already has. That feeling can take the place of action. That is why people who talk the most often do the least. They feel as though they have already arrived, so they stop moving. You only wanted to prove yourself. But soon you find yourself living just to prove your words. It is your life, yet your words slowly begin to direct it. Third, words cannot truly define who you are. It may feel that way, but they do not. What defines you is how you act and the attitude you carry. Those things do not need words. People rarely remember what you said. They remember how you acted and how you carried yourself. The quieter you are, the more closely people watch what you do. Your attitude speaks. Your choices speak. The life you live speaks. So when you feel the urge to prove yourself with words, pause and think. Ask yourself whether those words will truly help you. In most cases, you are better off leaving them unsaid. If you value your life and what you have built, choose your words carefully. Because once the words start flowing, what you have built can begin to slip away.
