[0:07]that goal and, um, I mean the last one is just a big moment for for Slaf, um, you know, hitting another milestone new to him and uh, just happy that we got the win out of that. How much of a distraction was it actually the last few days waiting for that call, that goal to happen? Uh, I wouldn't say it was like a distraction. I think subconsciously maybe forcing plays to call him maybe just gripping his stick a little bit. Um, so, you know, it's, you know, just special to see him and all the work that he puts in and how, uh, he gets rewarded for it. What do you think a win like this could mean a week or so from now if you play them in the first round? Yeah, I think both teams kind of had the same thing in mind and, um, that was physical, a lot of emotion, uh, a lot of scrums. Um, you know, it's, you know, just special to, if we see them in the first round, you know, I think, uh, a lot more of that to come, so it should be fun. How much was the belief that you guys can win any which way reinforced with the way this game went. Yeah, I mean, it was slow, obviously, with all the whistles and penalties and, um, our power plays didn't do us any favors, so, um, you know, we just like that second period, we just wanted to regroup, come out in the in the third, uh, and get back to our 515 game. I thought we did that and, you know, give up that six on five goal, but, uh, you know, find a way to win in the end. Were you having the feeling that he was going to be tonight for Cole with the way he was playing in the first buzzing a lot of shots to the net? Yeah, he had a lot of chances early. Um,
[2:58]Yeah, I think it will be good and I I enjoy this game a lot. We all know you're pretty close with Cole. How do you feel about it tonight? Oh, it was so happy. I feel like everyone is so happy and, uh, the way we celebrated and, uh, yeah, it was, uh, past couple games we're trying to maybe force it a little bit, but, uh, I'm happy. I'm happy that when it and, uh, he finally has it and, uh, hopefully he can get, uh, couple more until the end. What about the circumstances of your 30th goal, how meaningful it was? Yeah, it was, uh, no, good bounds for us. Suzy made a, made a nice play and, uh, thanks. And, uh, yeah, it was a big goal. You know, uh, the guys did good job on the ice and, uh, I like how we fought until the end and, uh, and got the two points. What was the feeling when they tied it up at the end of the game? Well, you're a little bit, uh, you're a little bit pissed because, uh, you feel like, I feel like we we had them. We just scored uh their power play too. So that was big for us and I feel like we had the momentum, but obviously they got good players so they they're going to try to come back and it happened. But, uh, we kept playing, kept for checking and, uh, got rewarded. Can you describe that goal in terms of Nick's, Nick's pass to you and and the feeling of scoring that tying goal that way? Or that the go ahead goal, sorry. Yeah, I Suzy Suzy rimmed it. I I went to pressure, you know, like I said it kinda they I feel like it I'm not sure I didn't see it good, but I feel like it kind of like bounced back to Suzy and he just I was coming in front of that, he just gave it to me and, uh, yeah, I I just shot it, you know, and it shot and I didn't even know it went in. I just saw the the light and cheers so, uh, just celebrated on my back. Are you as a young player to be part of the historical moment like that? How cool was it?
[5:09]loved how how we competed all night. What message do you think if any you you sent to Tampa Bay if you meet them a week or so from now first round. Yeah, I think we're just a hard team to play against. Um, you know, when we're on. Um, we knew that, uh, tonight was going to be, um, a hard fought battle. Um, we knew how they've been playing, um, over the last couple years, um, bringing the physicality and and everything like that and, um, you know, we can play that brand too. So, um, yeah, it was it was nice to be a part of that game. How does your mouth feel? Uh, it's fine. It's fine. Thank you. How did you react to the goal from Cole? Yeah, uh, like I said, I mean, you just you knew it was coming. You knew it was brewing. Uh, all the scoring chances that he's had over the last, uh, four or five games. Um, you know, I think I was talking about it yesterday. He's probably going to score tonight and then sure enough he did. So, um, you know, you don't score, you know, 50 for for no reason and, um, he's he's had a lot of looks, a lot of chances, so they were bound to go in and, um, you know, I'm I'm really happy for him. What was it How was it on the bench just to celebrate? Yeah, it was pure excitement. I I wish I was on the bench with the guys, but I was in the box, so, um, it was it was good. It was really good. The way the team responded to that physicality and that that kind of play is our are those lessons learned from the the Washington series last year, last year? Yeah, maybe. I think, um, you know, having that experience, um, that we went through in that in that series, um, a lot of players, uh, that were involved in that, um, kind of recognized that, you know, that's kind of the playoff style that you got to be ready for and, um, you know, we we certainly were ready for it tonight. Um, like I said, I I loved our our pack mentality. Everybody was in there. Um, nobody was shy, so, uh, that's what we needed.
[7:11]the regular stuff uh of your of your game, the structure of the game, all that stuff. Yeah, I think so. And you know, relief that we uh, you know, we can just kind of not have to worry about looking for him. Uh, obviously you wanted to get him, get him this goal and get it over with and then, you know, just play and uh, I feel like that's what we did. He's a pretty humble guy. I'm not sure what he's going to really say to us a little bit later, but what do you think this means to him to get that achievement with this team especially because it's been 36 years. Yeah, I mean, I'm sure uh, you know, he's happy, but I think he's more happy with you know, the result of winning. Uh, you know, he he's a competitor and wants to help as much as he can win. So, you know, at the end of the day, it's a it's a really high number, but, you know, I'm sure uh, he's just going to keep going.
[8:02]Speak of competitors was uh Corey Perry. What's it like going up with him having against him to your face. Yeah, I mean, uh he's good at what he does. Uh he's been doing it for so long. Uh, you know, he knows what he's doing out there. Uh, just, you know, sometimes he just in the crosshairs of, you know, the competitive side of the game and, you know, how do you disengage from a guy like that? Uh, I mean, it's hard because he's, you know, he's strong. Uh, like I said, he knows what he's doing. Um, but yeah, he's he's been doing it so long. So it's just hard to kind of get yourself out of there and, you know, try to protect yourself and, you know, keep them off of our other guys too. Do you feel there's something different about how this team answers to physicality this year compared to maybe last year in playoffs against Washington? I think just more experience with it. Uh, you know, we've played those physical games, uh, throughout the year and throughout last season, too. But I think when you get that playoff experience and understand that a lot can happen in a short amount of time. Uh, you know, kind of makes you more more ready for games like this. Do you feel something about that physicality and to play that kind of game?
[11:11]I don't know.
[13:38]I was just going to ask you about your dad there. We saw him on the monitor also you know, we also know how proud you are you're the first American born player to score 50 goals for the Canadians. Can you talk a little bit about all all that? Um, honestly, it's uh, it's hard not to follow. You know, you see it kind of everywhere. It's uh, not going to lie. It's pretty stressed out the past couple days. Um,
[14:04]but that's that's what makes this place so special and, um, that's what it's kind of so cool for me and, you know, my teammates and coaches and and family to to kind of take this in and enjoy it. Um, honestly, it felt like it was never going to come there for a couple days but you know, it was three games and, um, you know, I just glad it's kind of over with now and we can, you know, get back to work. Um, you know, we still got a couple more big games left. I think you just congratulations first of all, but I think you just answered the question now you can move on with the rest of your life and career. It's almost You guys too. You guys too. You're relieved that it's over. Uh, it's not over, but it's it's we've moved on from that. Yeah. Yeah. Thanks.
[15:03]you talked with uh Marty St. Louis says four years. How much he helps you in this journey? Um, honestly, I don't know if there's a, you know, a guy to thank more or you know, give more respect to. I think, you know, when he came in, he gave me not only an opportunity, but, um, definitely some confidence and, you know, he taught me how to play the game the right way to kind of create more and and get the puck more in better spots. You know, he always says he's not going to teach me how to score, but, um, I think deep down he knows he did. And, uh, you know, to work with a guy like that, I think everybody on our team has benefited a lot from him and, um, not only him, but our whole staff is is been outstanding and, um, a lot of thanks to him but, uh, you know, everybody kind of deserves, you know, a little piece of that. Thank you. Okay. Congrats, Cole. Thanks. Say about seven years ago sliding down What would you go and tell yourself knowing what happened today back then? Um, I wouldn't want it any other way. I think, uh, you know, I was fortunate enough to to go to the right place and and go to the right team. I think, uh, you know, who knows, you know, where I'd be at, you know, on a different team and, you know, just thankful for for everything that this city has has offered and, um, you know, kind of the journey that we've been on ever since I've gotten here, but it's definitely uh, a special thing and, um, you know, very lucky and fortunate to to guess to have accomplished this, you know, right now. It was fitting that, uh, Suzuki and Slakowski ended up part of that goal, just like to get to 50, what what contribution has has your teammates made to that success? Everything. I think, um, you know, without all of those guys, you know, those two particularly, but, um, you know, they work so hard and, you know, I just try and get open and and make it easier on them to find me. But, um, I think the way we've been working and, you know, for the past couple years, it's uh, it's definitely feels good to kind of get this as a reward, but, you know, there's there's a lot of effort and, you know, detail that goes into that that's uh, you know, might not get recognized. But, um, those two for sure, you know, I wouldn't have drawn it up any other way. Um, you know, I'm pumped up for Slaugh, too. You know, big goal there at the end to grab 30.
