[0:00]Hiya, welcome to LSB Feaster's Radio Aircheck Channel, where we keep great radio from the past alive. Today, we're going to South Florida and 96X W MJX. In the early 1970s, the 963 FM signal in Miami was home to a very successful top 40 station known as 96 WM YQ. But, on October 1st, 1975, the station changed its identity to 96X WMJX. And the station kind of chugged along for the next several years, by 1979, the station did a quick flip to disco. But when disco died out, it flipped back to top 40, but all while this was going on, the station was fighting a battle in the background with the FCC. Uh, the FCC actually was after the station for running misleading contest, false news and misleading advertising. And WMJX eventually lost its battle with the FCC and had to turn in its license in 1981 and the last song they played, The Beatles, The Long and Winding Road. The station remained dark until June 15th, 1985 when the station was brought back on the air under new ownership and continues on as Power 96 to this day.
