[0:08]What's up, guys? We're here in Auckland, and in this video, we're going to show you the best things to do here for a one-day visit. So, hope you enjoy it.

[0:22]Auckland is a vibrant and diverse city located on the North Island of New Zealand. It's on most visitors' travel itinerary thanks to its stunning harbor, diverse cultures, and beautiful natural surroundings. It's also the country's largest city, with over a quarter of New Zealand's population calling it home. In this video, we highlight the best things to do that fit in a one-day visit. Now let's dive in. We are Zach and Ina. We make helpful videos about destinations around the world so you can easily plan your own adventures.

[1:05]Located on Auckland's waterfront, Viaduct Harbour is a bustling precinct that has undergone a remarkable transformation. This area used to be a commercial port, but it's now become a top destination for leisure and entertainment. As you stroll along its pedestrian walkways, you'll find an array of restaurants, bars, and cafes that offer picturesque views over the marina.

[1:39]The New Zealand Maritime Museum is also a highlight of this area, which covers the country's rich seafaring history through an impressive collection of vessels. The iconic Sky Tower can be found in the heart of the central business district, dominating the skyline of Auckland. It stands at 328 m or 1,076 ft tall, and was primarily built for telecommunications purposes. But today, it's one of the most popular tourist attractions of the downtown area. This is thanks to its unparalleled panoramic views, where you can look out to the city, the surrounding harbors, and distant volcanic landscapes. You can ascend to various observation decks to soak in the vistas, have a meal at a revolving restaurant, or test your courage at the Sky Walk or Sky Jump. We were content to just take in the stunning sights with a glass of wine.

[2:57]Mount Eden is situated about 5 km or 3.1 miles south of Auckland's Central Business District. This prominent landform is the highest natural point in the city, and is a dormant volcano with a distinct bowl-shaped crater. The crater formed approximately 28,000 years ago. Its fertile slopes were also historically significant to Maori, who built fortified settlements here. Follow the well-maintained walking path for an easy and rewarding climb to the top, where you can take in some great views of the downtown area.

[3:41]Auckland is actually built on a volcanic fields including 50 cones and craters and we're standing right now on one ourselves, but you can also see some others scattered around the landscape from this viewpoint.

[4:05]Auckland's City Center serves as its bustling hub. A key highlight is Britomart, a beautifully restored precinct boasting trendy cafes, upscale restaurants, designer boutiques, and many heritage buildings. It's a stylish place to shop, dine, and soak in the atmosphere.

[4:33]Just a short walk away is Federal Street, renowned for its diverse culinary scene. Here, you can find a wealth of restaurant options offering a range of international flavors.

[5:03]Embark on a harbor cruise for a delightful escape from the city center. Tours depart from the downtown ferry terminal and usually last about 1 and a half hours. From the water, you'll witness the impressive Auckland Harbour Bridge, the historic Devonport Naval Base, the volcanic island of Rangitoto, and the charming city scape itself. The tour guide on the boat not only highlights points of interest, but also shares insights into Auckland's maritime history and culture. We found this to be a great introduction to the city, especially if you're short on time.
