I will download and then install a probe package on a robot. Here's the scenario we'll be working through. I want to use the URL Response probe to monitor the performance of the company website. Right now this package is not in my local archive. This means that I cannot deploy the URL response probe to a robot in my CAUIM environment. I can use Admin console to download a probe package from the web archive, so it resides locally in the hub file system or local archive. Then I can deploy a probe that's in the local archive to a robot on a target device. In this video, I demonstrate how to use Admin Console to deploy a specific probe. Many probes have different requirements that must be met to work properly. Before you attempt to deploy a probe, always review the probe release notes. The release notes contain important information about probe specific hardware and software requirements, as well as any special installation instructions. For example, the release notes for the URL Response probe explain that the default installation directory has changed for newer versions of the probe. We'll begin by accessing the Admin console interface from Unified Service Manager. I'm already logged into Unified Service Manager. I can access Admin Console from this portlet using the Actions button. When I select the Admin Console, it opens in a new tab in my browser. Here is the Admin Console interface for my CA Unified Infrastructure Management environment. From the Hub info tab, I can see the status of the selected hub robots and licenses, and a summary of the hub's properties. I can import, download, and deploy pro packages from the Archive tab. I want to download a pro package, so I'll select the Archive tab. The Archive tab shows the versions of pro packages stored in the local archive and the web archive. The web version column shows the packages stored in the central server or web archive. The web version of the package must be downloaded to the local archive prior to being deployed to a robot. The local version column displays the packages that are present on the file system of the selected hub. I want to monitor the response time for the company webpage, so I need to see if the URL response pro package has been downloaded to the file system of the selected hub. I typed the first few letters of the probe name in the filter. I see that the URL response pro package is not stored locally on the hub file system. This means that I need to download the pro package from the web archive. To download a pro package, I can click the inline menu button next to the pro package. Then select download. I can also download several pro packages at the same time. I can select the probes, then open the actions menu and select download. Before the download process begins, you might see a login prompt. Enter your credentials for the probe archive if necessary. Select okay to confirm the download. Now I see the progress of the download. The download was successful. The URL Response probe package is in the hub file system. Now that the URL Response probe is in the local archive, I can deploy it to a robot. To start the deploy process, I click the inline menu button next to the probe package and then select deploy. On the Deploy package page, I select a hub in the Hubs pane. The robots connected with the selected hub appear in the target robots pane. I only want to deploy the probe package to my primary hub right now, so I click the cancel icons next to the other robots. Then I select deploy to start the probe deployment process. When the deployment process begins, the Deployment Activity page appears. I see that the probe deployment failed because the license for the URL response probe is missing or has expired. If this happens, you need to contact CA support using support.ca.com and work with the product licensing team. My licenses have been updated, so I'll repeat the deployment process and select to deploy the probe to the primary hub. I'll select the hub and then the target robot. I select deploy to repeat the probe deployment process. This time, the probe deployment is successful. The URL Response probe has been deployed to the robot I selected. If this process had failed, I would see a different failure status message. Look in the log file of the automated deployment engine probe for information about the cause of the failure. For example, the installation might have failed due to not meeting all of the required probe pre-requisites. Now I need to verify that the URL response probe is installed on the selected robot. I select the Robot tab to view the list of robots. I deployed the probe package to the hub robot, so I'll click the robot name to view the installed probes. The Robot Info tab displays the status of the selected robot's probes and summarizes properties about the robot. By default, the robot running the hub probe is displayed at the top of the robot list in the left pane. I click the Probes tab to see the probes running on the hub robot. Here I see the probes running on the hub robot. When I scroll to the bottom of the probes list, I see the URL Response probe is installed on the selected robot. I can manually configure the monitoring settings for the URL Response probe in admin console by clicking the inline menu button and then selecting the Configure option. Or I can return to the Unified Service Manager and use monitoring configuration service to create a monitoring profile that can be applied to a group of devices.
