[0:00]It is reported in the two saheehs that a woman came to the Prophet with a woven cloak and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, I wove this with my own hands for you to wear.’ The Prophet took it, as he was in need of it. He then went out to us wearing it as his izar—that is, the garment he wore when he went out before his companions and sat among them. A man from the crowd then touched it, meaning he touched it with his hand. In another narration, it is said that he praised it, meaning he said- ‘O Messenger of Allah, how fine it is! This cloak you are wearing is beautiful.’ He said: ‘How fine it is! Give it to me,’ meaning, ‘Give it to me as a garment for myself.’ The Prophet said: ‘Yes.’ He then sat in the gathering for as long as Allah willed, then returned—meaning he entered his chamber, folded it, and sent it to him. By Allah, O people, I do not think anyone one of us would do this : that your garment, which you are wearing and have no other, would be taken, and a man from among his companions would come to him and say, ‘O Messenger of Allah, how fine it is; clothe me in it,’ and he would say, ‘Yes,’ and he would sit amongst them for a while, then enter his chamber, take it off, fold it, and send it to him. The Companions said to the man, ‘You have not done a good thing! Messenger of Allah wore it and he was in need of it.’ and you asked him for it and you knew that he does not turn away anyone who asks. The man said, ‘By Allah, I did not ask him to wear it; I only asked him so that it might be my shroud.’ Sahl said, ‘And so it became his shroud.’ May Allah be pleased with them, and may Allah's blessings and peace be upon our Prophet and his family.
