[0:00]This is the skill that Ronaldo mastered. Ronaldo receives the ball and is 1v1 with the defender. Notice the defender's body is facing towards the space on the outside, making it easier for him to attempt a tackle if Ronaldo goes left, and is expecting the defender on the inside and three trailing players to help if Ronaldo goes right. In this position, Ronaldo knows the space on the outside is the better choice, but to get there, Ronaldo has to change the defender's body positioning. Ronaldo drives towards the defender and plants his left foot next to the ball to set up a step over, but the defender doesn't bite. This is because Ronaldo's body line was completely straight, making it obvious he wasn't going to cut inside. But what if I told you he did this on purpose? Ronaldo's second step over is quicker, and his body line is on a sharper angle, causing the defender to adjust his footing and is now positioned square with Ronaldo. Now, the defender is forced to make a decision, so when Ronaldo hits the third step over, the defender commits completely, shifting all of his weight to defend the inside. Now all the defender can do is dangle a leg as Ronaldo goes past him and smashes the ball on his weak foot into the far corner.
