[0:00]One thing I've said to young writers is uh when you go through one of these college writing programs, they didn't exist in my day.
[0:10]I took some writing courses, but there was no degree in writing when I was out there. And I often say to them, the thing they keep telling you is you is they need you. They want you out there in publishing. They need new voices, new approaches. And the thing I learned, and the thing I'd like to share is they may need you. They may need you, but they don't want you. If you have a new approach or a different way of doing it, it will be resisted aggressively. And you just have to learn to say, okay, this is how I see approaching this kind of story. And you may not like it. You may think it's wrong, but I've got this all out, and I think we can build it. And you've got to be willing and able to say, I have to go somewhere where somebody is willing to take a risk, and you're going to learn that there aren't many who will take a risk with a genuinely different approach to something.
