[0:00]So you're going to an interview to become an SEO and you're wondering about the interview questions and answers. By the way, my name is Chris and I am a full-time digital marketing nerd/guru. I am obsessed with this stuff. Um, I have interviewed for tons of positions about SEO strategies, digital marketing specialists and today I want to shed some light on what you can come into contact with when it comes to these interviews. So, and it can be deceiving because the the whole industry of SEO, there's not really like a college degree for it and sometimes people get nervous. And what I want to talk about is uh the questions and what you can expect with these SEO interview questions and answers. So, first of all, guys, the number one question is usually what is SEO? You know, they're going to try to feel you out, like, are you lying about all this and knowing it all? And a lot of times what what people do to get jobs in SEO is they grow their own personal properties, you know, like maybe you have an email list. Maybe you have um a YouTube channel and you did YouTube SEO on the channel or maybe you have a website you ranked in Google or a handful of local uh business websites. It really doesn't matter, they're going to ask you, they're going to try to weed out the people that have no idea what they're talking about. The second question is usually what tools are you using to do your SEO? You know, a lot of times it's Ahrefs, it's um Semrush, it really, you know, there's so many SEO tools out there. Just be honest with this stuff, guys. Don't go in there like all tight and nitty-gritty, you know, just like be honest, uh, just a lot of times people in SEO are passionate about what they're doing and a lot of times that shows through their work and just just let that show through. The third question is you, uh, what, what is a backlink? You know, because honestly, backlinks are probably like the sole, the sole thing that holds SEO together. I mean, you have on-site SEO is a pretty big deal too, but, you know, backlinks are going to ask you about backlinks and what you can do is you can, uh, talk about like what people don't talk about in general, you know, talk about like, maybe like super powerful backlinks that nobody else is talking about. Or like, uh competitor analysis on backlinks in SEO, like that's huge, just try to like, uh just try to remember, they might be interviewing a handful of people and if they're looking, you know, they're probably looking for something that's like next level and that's not super generic. Uh, another thing they might ask you about is the Googlebot, you know, or the search engine results. And um, you know, just again, answer this stuff to the best of your ability, try to keep it like non non generic and just what you would, what I would do, what I personally did, you know, because I concentrate on a lot of YouTube SEO and it's it's it's pretty similar, it's just a different fashion. I've done all types of SEO and worked for agencies and what you can do is just talk about like different campaigns that you ran. You know, it's really easy to talk about previous like jobs that you've done with backlinks and building website SEOs because what will happen is your passion will show through in kind of talking about it and just you know, these interview questions, you have to remember like they're just they're just trying to weed out people that don't know what they're doing. And if you know SEO and you have results doing it, you probably have nothing to worry about because this is like this is one of those industries where like there's not tons of SEOs and chances are, you know, you're going to you're going to get the job. Another question is, what is the main purpose of using keywords in SEO? You know, keywords are huge when it comes to SEO because that's what we want to rank for, right? And talk about like the different types of keywords, you know, you have your you have your local, you know, your local keywords like near me or in the area. You have your organic uh keywords, like I don't know, just go down a rabbit hole and just talk about this stuff, just tell them what you know. And again, if you haven't, if you haven't done any of this like on the job training or like worked on an actual website and you just did like these online courses, you probably need to start by building your own properties and ranking them. Because if you haven't lived on the job experience, they're going to see through that and a lot of times what they'll do is they'll have their lead marketer come in and sit in on the interview. This is something you should know because a lot of times HR is the one asking the questions and keeping everything like, uh, politically correct per se, but they'll have someone from the marketing team come and sit in there. And maybe multiple people come and sit there and what they're doing is they're judging you, what by what you know, by what you, how you answer these SEO interview questions. So, just know that like they're they're going to bring in an expert usually to to kind of weed out to see if you know what you're talking about. What they might uh also ask you is, you know, what does it, what does it mean if nothing appears while searching for your domain in the Google search results? You know, what is, what is uh, you know, article spinning, name some SEO blogs that help you learn in this industry and, you know, I can walk you through my my interviews. A lot of times, to give you my personal experience, what they did was they they sat you down. Uh, some of them cut right to the chase and to kind of weed out their time and I could tell they were just like they dealt with a lot of crap SEO marketers and it's just like, they'll be like, uh, how do you forward, you know, like they'll start asking you technical SEO questions, you know, like, what's a technical SEO question? Um, you know, how do you build backlinks? What backlinks don't you want to do? How do you, how do you do like a a specific search syntax in Google search, you know, to see if your domain is, uh, you know, whatever or how how how what is Google Analytics? How do you, how do you, what do you look at in Google Analytics? What do you look at in search console? You know, there's tons of things that can weed out like, uh non-technical SEOs that haven't been like on the job trained and it's really easy to do. I'm trying to think of what else, um, if if we go to search engine journal.com, they have a really cool website on or a really cool article on this. Let's take a look at that because I feel like that would kind of like help us answer that. And again, I'll throw a link to this in the description. I love searchenginejournal.com, if you haven't subscribed to them, you need to, they have an amazing newsletter. Let's let's take a look at some of these technical SEO interview questions. How do you check whether a URL is indexed by Google? And again, we did talk about this a little bit, what you can do is just do like a a search syntax, a lot of times you can do like um site, uh, colon, quotes and then the URL and then, uh, quotes, that will answer that. I don't know why I'm talking about this right now, but what's another one here? How do you block a URL from being indexed?
[6:53]That's a really good question. These are technical SEO interview questions here. A lot of times what you have to do is you have to go in there and do the no-follow tag, right? So, again, if you don't know this stuff, they're going to eat you up. What are the most important SEO ranking factors in your opinion? Ooh, that's huge, right? I would say on-site SEO, the title's huge, I would say keyword density is huge, the backlink portfolio, uh is huge. Uh, let's go back here. This is these are really good questions. I'm having some fun here. What SEO myths have you had enough of? How about SEO is dead? That's a that's a stupid myth, we all get sick of hearing, right? What is your favorite website crawler and why? I would say Screaming Frog is my favorite. So, again, these are just the questions in the interview you're going to probably want to, uh, if you're good at SEO, you're going to ace this, promise it. How do you analyze page speed and core web vitals? So, again, personally, I just use tools to do all this stuff. Uh, they have a ton of tools, but, guys, I kind of went down a wormhole here, so hopefully, um, this helps you learn, uh, get shed some light. Uh, I've aced almost every single SEO interview I've had except for a couple of them where, uh, one of them I got to this interview and they literally had me fill out this like 50 question quiz. And a lot of it had nothing to do with SEO and more or less paid advertising and at the time, I wasn't super good at like pay paid advertising because I was new. I I I concentrated on organic SEO. So, guys, uh, hit me up in the comment section. I want to know, like, are you are you heading to an interview? Are you nervous about it?
