“Every Innovation Is Misguidance.”: Prophet Muhammad

[0:00]These are good innovations. These are excellent innovations. These are fine innovations. These are pleasant innovations. These are good innovations. Silence. Do not oppose the one who came with the legislation, no matter what the status of the speaker is. The one who came with the legislation says: "Every innovation is misguidance." There is no guidance in innovations. There is no guidance in innovations. Some statements have come from `Umar and others: "What an excellent innovation this is" regarding the Taraweeh prayer. Meaning what was newly introduced from that which the people had abandoned, so it is a revival of a Sunnah. The first one who commanded the Taraweeh prayer was the Prophet: "Whoever prays behind his Imam until he finishes, it will be written for him as if he prayed the whole night." So this came from the linguistic angle. As for you introducing for the people in the religion something new, no, no. We have been sufficed, as Ibn Mas'ud says: "Hold fast to the old way, for indeed you have been sufficed." Here is the importance of Tawheed and the Sunnah, and warning against its opposite—shirk and innovation. "For every newly introduced matter is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance." Nothing is excluded from innovations. There is nothing good in them at all. Impurity—nothing is excluded from it; all of it is impure. There is not a single hair of the dog that is pure; all of it is impure. Innovations—all of them are misguidance. There is no innovation that is guidance leading to Paradise. If there had been in them, the Prophet would have said it. But he closed the path. And Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: "Say (O Muhammad to mankind): If you (really) love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you."
