[0:00]Hello, this is a demonstration of how you can create your own custom instructions within ChatGPT to help with your workflow. What do I mean by workflow? Well, for myself, I find myself having to remind ChatGPT to speak a certain way or to format in a certain way, or to take a certain tone or to use certain words or to avoid certain words. Well, you don't have to do that anymore if you use custom instructions. And it works perfectly. Let me just share my screen and show you how. So first of all, you need to be in ChatGPT, and then you need to go into your account. So that will be down here in the bottom left-hand corner, and you go to custom instructions. And there are two boxes. The first box is all about what would you like ChatGPT to know about you to provide better responses? And this is really important because if you are an academic or you are an engineer or you are a medical doctor, then you want ChatGPT to understand your background so that it can then formulate the responses in a way that is applicable to you and your background. You can mention your location, your company, your role, your goals, what you do, what your interests are. But be careful not to reveal any private or sensitive information. The second box is all about how would you like ChatGPT to respond? And this is where for myself, this is where it really helps because I find myself having to remind it to create headings and subheadings, to use bullet points, to take a specific tone like a professional tone, to keep sentences short, to write in the active voice. So whatever it is that you find yourself commonly having to remind ChatGPT to do, you can put it in this box. Now, for myself, I've just filled it in for the purpose of this demonstration. So for myself, in the first box, I've mentioned that I'm an academic, and I'm a learning and teaching specialist who's passionate about educational technology and AI tools to enhance learning and teaching. And I've mentioned that I speak fluent English and Indonesian, and I'm interested in using AI tools for creating academic papers, for creating presentations and workshops, and for writing research proposals. And then in the second box, where it's all about how I want ChatGPT to respond, I've mentioned that I want it to respond in a friendly and professional tone, that I want it to use plain language to avoid jargon or to explain the jargon. I want it to use headings and subheadings, to use bullet points, and to ask clarifying questions. So that is how I've set up my custom instructions, and I've clicked saved. And now let's see how it works. So let me just give a prompt that is nothing to do with any of those custom instructions. So I'm going to say, please tell me about the history of Jakarta. And you can see that the custom instructions are on because it's mentioned down here that custom instructions are on. So let's see how it responds. So here you can see that ChatGPT has responded with a friendly and professional tone. It's used headings and subheadings, and it's also used bullet points, and it's used plain language. And then at the very end, it's asked me if I'd like to explore any specific period or aspect of Jakarta's history in more detail. So that is absolutely amazing. This is how custom instructions work and this is how it will help with your workflow. Now, for some reason, if you feel that you want to turn off your custom instructions, you can simply click on the button and it will say custom instructions are off. And then when you give it another prompt, then it will respond in a default way. But for the majority of cases, it will be helpful to keep custom instructions on. I hope this was helpful. If you have any questions, please feel free to put them in the comments section below. Thank you for watching.
