[0:00]How can I better understand the Trinity? I mean, I know it's in the Bible somewhere, but it's just really confusing. Well, today we're going to try to clear that up. That's coming up today.

[0:14]Hey my friend, welcome to the Beat. My name is Allen Parr. If this is your first time here, it's a pleasure. So today we're going to tackle a very difficult question and one that is very commonly misunderstood, which is this idea of the Trinity. Now the first question we want to ask is why is this important at all? Well, let me just say this. Whatever your view is on the Trinity communicates whether you agree with or understand basic Christian doctrine. So if you or someone that you're listening to rejects the idea of the Trinity, well, that's not a minor thing because you also now have to ask the question, what other major aspects or beliefs or tenets of the Christian faith does this person also not subscribe to? Which is going to lead you to the question of whether you should be putting yourself under that person's teaching or not. So in this video, I'm going to give you four simple and clear statements that you must adhere to if you are going to subscribe to the biblical belief of the Trinity. And real quick, if you want more information and more scriptures to study on your own, and you actually want this particular image right here on the screen, I'm going to put a link to it in the description box below and you can study this out on your own. Statement number one, there is one God. Deuteronomy 6:4 says this, "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one." Now, the passage of scripture that I just read is actually called the Shema, which every Hebrew was taught to recite both in the morning and in the evening. So to deny that there is just one God makes you what is called a polytheist or someone who believes in many gods. And so because Judaism was a monotheistic religion and Christianity emerged or was birthed out of the Jewish faith, Christianity also subscribes to the fact that there is one God. This is actually one of the many places where the Mormon faith deviates from the Christian faith because they believe that any human being can ascend to become a God and can actually become a God of a different planet and then they can give birth to other children and those children can also become gods as well. The second statement that you must adhere to is that there is one God who coexists eternally in three persons. Now, the keyword in this statement is the word eternally, which means there was never a time in eternity past, nor will there ever be a time in eternity future where God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit did not exist. This is yet another place where both the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Mormons deviate from orthodox Christianity because they both believe that Jesus did not exist eternally, but rather, Jesus was a created being. Which is in direct violation and contradiction of the word of God, which describes Jesus clearly as the uncreated creator. The third statement that I want to leave you with today is that there is one God who coexists eternally in three distinct persons. This just simply means that God the Father is different or distinct or separate from God the Son, who is different or distinct from God the Holy Spirit, who is different from God the Father. But all of them are different persons or members of the Godhead. This is the reason why we should not refer to the Holy Spirit as an it because he is just as much of a person or a member of the Trinity as God the Father and God the Son because the Bible says that the Holy Spirit can speak to us, and it also refers to the Holy Spirit as one who can be grieved, right? So the Holy Spirit is not just some force, he's not an it, he is actually a person. Now I want to focus in on another word in this statement, which is the word coexists, which means that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are all existing or coexisting at the same time. So many centuries ago, people tried to best understand the Trinity and they came up with this false teaching called modalism, which is the idea that God can only exist in one mode at one time. In other words, I call it the Clark Kent theology. It's the idea that God goes into his proverbial phone booth, he puts on his cape and then he comes out looking like Jesus's son. And then whenever he wants to be Holy Spirit, he has to say, hey, I can't be God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit at the same time. So let me go back into my phone booth, put my Holy Spirit cape on and then come out and I'm the Holy Spirit. Listen, this is a false teaching and a false understanding of the Trinity, which is one of the reasons why, by the way, that Bishop T.D. Jakes caught so much slack several years ago because this was what he subscribed to on his website. I believe since then, he may have recanted his belief and changed his belief on the Trinity.

[5:02]And the fourth and final statement, if you want to understand the Trinity is, there is one God who coexists eternally in three distinct persons who are coequal. This just simply means that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are all equal in their essence, in their godness, if you will, but they have different roles. God the Father does not have the same role as God the Son, who does not have the same role as God the Holy Spirit, which is a great picture of how it works in marriage, right? The husband and the wife are equal in terms of their humanity, but they have different roles that have been assigned to them to carry out the vision of the marriage.
